What bus did you get today? (2007-2018)

For the benefit of saying on topic I got 881 and 114 today.

As for the transmissions, the ZF Ecolife is a very boring transmission, much like the Voith boxes found in the MANs and PR100.2s, although obviously the .2s are three speed rather than the 4 speed in the MANs and I would expect they are totally different given the age gap. As for the classic ZF whine found in their older gearboxes, you will find that a 100.3 which has a well tuned gearbox (110 is a good example, or was las time I was on it) make the same noise. :)

EDIT: I left the Irises out of the list of whining boxes, as pointed out by KoB, not that anyone cares about the Irises

I had 538 this morning, I think these artics are good enough, except sitting in the back of an artic for the first time in quite a while, I found out that my driver (who is the fastest one I know) mounts every single corner and roundabout, so not all that pleasant.

I like the sound of the newer buses

I'll do it. Generally, one company supplies the chassis and engine and all that stuff, and another company builds a body on top.
So basically (design permitting), any body can be put on any chassis. You can have MAN CB80's. Scania CB80's. Scania XDi's. Cummins XDi's. Volvo CB80's. Volvo XDi's. Mercedes Optimus'! Most bus chassis can have any bus body built on top or at least adapted in most cases.

Sighted 575 in service today - looked shiny!

It has been in service since at least last Thursday...and any bus can look shiny if it has been detail and/or cleaned...

There are CAT Xdis too, or at least there were until CAT stopped on-highway engine supply.
In the case of the Xdi, only the engine is made by Cummins. Rest of it is made by component suppliers like ZF, Merritor, Hendrickson etc etc

Got 997 after waiting in the below zero temperatures. Still angry!
I asked the field van people at the city and told them the bus didn't show up and they gave me a free ride to school.

It's frustrating when the bus doesn't show, but what's with people whinging about the cold?

Don't know about you guys, but when I catch public transport on a cold morning, I dress for the conditions rather than legging it to the stop one second before my bus is due dressed in my January best expecting a toasty warm bus at 6am on the dot.

Buzz you are so far from the average commuter though, they think the bus is heated overnight and if it's cold on the bus it may be because the driver is being nasty. Most dress totally inappropriately for the sub freezing conditions, particularly school students who must think it increases the size of their balls to wear shorts and a t-shirt.

I didn't catch a bus today so can't really add to this thread.

Well you'd better get used to it. You're quite fortunate if this is a first. Since network 14.1, I can think of at least 3 cases where my bus didn't come and a few more where buses have even been 15 minutes late. I'm so jealous you got taxied to school in one of those vans though, I wouldn't have the nerve to go up to them and complain    (And when they find out how far I need to travel to school, they would never offer to take me)

What could you possibly mean!? I wear 5, if not 6 layers to school everyday plus the other usual cold-weather gear... And I have to admit, this morning was cold even by Canberra Winter standards.

Actually, network 14.1 has been a lot better to my service. In Network 14, this bus didn't show up just about every 2 weeks which was utterly frustrating. Apparently this was because of "driver availability."

Today, I travelled on:

544. (Bus showed up today. When it appeared behind the bushes, everyone at my stop mutterd: "Yay" "It's coming today" etc.) I got my favourite seat in the bus (those one and a half setters and some lady thought my bag was her own personal leaning pole while she was standing. There were lots of other seats available to take. My personal space bubble went *Pop*. I hate those people who pay cash. Seemed like everyone on the bus had done so and I ended up only just making my next bus. Crap.

That's because I didn't have too. All I'm saying is that if a bus is on Northbourne Ave and it is a PR3, and my bus is behind (4## or 5##) then they can get on that pr3 instead of wasting other people's time choosing the aircon bus. In a different circumstance where the bus is by itself with no one in front, then the passenger can get in the ac bus!

The pax has the right to signal and catch any bus that is in service.
Your logic is flawed. If it's peak hour on Northbourne it's going to make no difference to your service as you can't really overtake anyway.
Think you should stick to the back of the artic.
