What roads, we hear you ask? Doing something to relieve congestion on Gundaroo Dr? Extend Clarrie Hermes Dr to the Highway? Finally finish Horse Park Dr?

Ha! Yeah right..

Gungahlin's newest residents in Bonner and Forde will benefit from a $10.8 million upgrade of Mulligans Flat Road, including new cycle lanes, roundabouts and pedestrian underpasses, with work commencing in the coming weeks.

Chief Minister and Minister for Transport, Jon Stanhope, said the Stage 1 works include the reconstruction of 2.5 kilometres of Mulligans Flat Road from Jessie Street in Forde towards the NSW border.

Two roundabouts will also be constructed to provide access to the new residential estates of Bonner 1b, Bonner 2 and future access to Bonner Stage 4 and Forde Stage 2.

Mr Stanhope said the roadworks would deliver a safer and smoother transport link between Bonner and Forde and the rest of Gungahlin.

"The ACT Government is about to commence a $10.8 million upgrade of Mulligans Flat Road, which involves rebuilding some 2.5 kilometres of the road," Mr Stanhope said.

"Two roundabouts and two pedestrian underpasses will be constructed as part of the works. Cyclists have also been catered for with new on-road cycle lanes.

"Mulligans Flat Road is an important arterial road connecting the growing estates of Forde and Bonner with the rest of Gungahlin.

"These significant roadworks represent an important investment in the future transport needs of Gungahlin's growing community."

Local contractor Group One was awarded the tender for the works, which are expected to take 12 months to complete.

The Government plans to upgrade the remaining 600-metre section of Mulligans Flat Road to the NSW border as part of the Stage 2 roads works. These works are subject to further design work and consultation on any potential environmental impact.

That part of Gungahlin is hardly in need of any upgrade work. Some of the intersections along Horse Park Drive would do with a roundabout or 2 or even connecting the 2 ends of Horse Park Drive would help some residents of Bonner, Forde, Amaroo, Casey & Jacka (work now starting).

This work wouldn't really need doing until mid 2011.
