As apart of the Cash on Track exhibition at Central Station, the main focus was on FP1, the first paybus lovingly restored by Railcorp Apprentices. FP1 was part of the First series of Paybuses (Originally a Railbus), which rode the rails of NSW with pay for the workers. It stopped off where track gangs worked, and at stations to allow those working to enter and collect their pay from the paymaster. All staff members onboard were armed, with the safe welded to the chassis and there were a few attempts to rob the paybuses, one story even had one blown off the tracks by explosives. The paybuses ended the pay runs in 1986, when all pay was then deposited into the respective bank accounts. ARHS ACT Has Paybus FP11, which is of a later series built by Comeng. FP13 was used as a passenger Rail bus on the Bombala Branch between Cooma and Bombala. FP1 is the only first series Paybus still around, the rest have been scrapped or damaged beyond repair.

If anyone has a chance, head into Rail Heritage Central located opposite the CityRail ticket office, in the old NSWGR booking office. Follow the tracks to FP1 which is located between Platforms 2 and 1. The exhibition is on until May 2010, however I am unsure if FP1 will be there for that long or not. It will head to the NSWRTM after display at Central.

I Hope you enjoyed my photographic escapade.
