I have just added 31 new pictures onto http://www.photobucket.com/ACTION from today. I am actually surprised that most pictures I have taken after the last 2 days are of buses that I haven't shot yet.

They are separated into individual folders depending on bus type/location. But too many to load up.

Okay... this needs to be said, so please don't take offense.

You really have a long way to go with your photos, but some basic tips to improve in the short term:

a) Hold your camera up, and hold it level. Most of these shots look like you have been unwilling to hold the camera up and look as though you have held the camera behind a bag or even in your lap or something

b) Is it a camera phone? (assuming it is given quality/size) If so, you may want to invest in a digital camera. You can get a decent one for $100, and some pretty good ones for $100-$200.

c) Don't be afraid to be seen taking photos. You have every right to be doing so.

d) Some of the photos are washed out. Figure out where the sun is and factor that in.

e) Keep the lens clean. Some of the photos appear to have been taken with a smudged lens.

f) ENSURE THE SUBJECT OF YOUR PHOTO (tHE BUS) IS IN FRAME!!

Really, the only one where you have the right idea is the one of 870, and perhaps 373. They are both in frame and from a  relatively close distance. Light isn't perfect but its good enough.

Some of the others may be able to expand on this, and we may look to have a Photo Tips thread that covers taking the photos, to go with the existing thread for editing.

I hope you can take these tips on board, because you obviously enjoy taking photos and trust me, you will enjoy the results a hell of a lot more if you listen to constructive criticism and improve your skill. Good luck.

Thanks for those tips. Yeah I do use my phone & have a camera in my bag, but changing batteries is annoying. Some blurry ones were because of a smudged lens. I usually try to go for weird angles, most of the time I'll sit on the ground near a bus stop & attempt to grab the bus at its weird angles. Some of them were taken when that tall building in the middle of Woden Interchange was blocking the sun. My other problem (you might call it) is I'll attempt to get the shot of one bus after another.

I also know that I'll have to choose new locations, rather then just the Interchanges. If I use the timetable & get buses out at depots. But my plan for next term is get to some schools early & get shots as each school bus leaves. I'll pick Canberra Girls Grammar first as it has like 10-12 school buses at once.

Forgot to mention that that would be right for me to get the picture of the driver in TWU top right (870).

I'm agree with, Snrub, hold the camera up, if people think it's funny that you are photographing a bus just ignore then, they don't know you, why the fuck would you care about what they think.

Second, you don't need to post every picture you take, some picture are not up to standard.

I have found some alright pictures on your photbucket such as:
The one of the airliner http://i550.photobucket.com/albums/ii421/JulianHamstead/Deanes/DeanesCityInterchange2.jpg
and the 366 one, except for camera hight, except the height of the camera http://i550.photobucket.com/albums/ii421/JulianHamstead/Scania%20L94UB%20CB60/BUS365CityInterchange.jpg

What kind of camera do you have?

Lithium batteries are good, they are a but more expensive but in the long term a lot cheaper.

I find that the best location is just outside the city interchange on the median strip on Nouthbourne ave. There are some benches and I sit on them amd rest the camera on it providing some good shots, Commonwealth ave. is good and outside the legislative assembly.

I wouldn't go to a school because that is a place that you may be asked to move away from.

Bus 400

The camera is a Kodak EasyShare C340 & so far the Woolowrths AA Alkaline batteries last the longest & the best price & at round $5.

I mostly take the pictures while waiting for my buses, which if you think about it would be the perfect time to use the camera. But other times are just chance pictures on the move, so phone are for those occasions. Which is why I started posting pics, but then took too many.

I grabbed that Deanes shot while I was sitting up, resting against that Nightlink Taxi stand & he came up close, so why not. I'd go to some schools, but check with some drivers first as at CGGS they get there about 15:15 & kids come out at 15:30. But schools like Mackillop Wanniassa they line up on Ashley Drive beforehand & Melrose High/Marist College buses line up on Melrose Drive. So they may be a safer option. Also to get alot of artics from around 15:45 onwards quite a few artics return to Tuggeranong Depot via Athllon Drive (Bonython end). While I'm a dole bludger I should get out & grab the best shots

Snorzac

Just a word of warning, don't post pictures like these on the ATDB as you will more than likely have the crap abused out of you by dick heads such as Sir Joh, Windy and Apollo.

Buzz Killington

Pretty sure he has posted them there too..

Snorzac

I know, I am surprised they haven't gotten to it yet

Bus 400

Yeah I have with 198 views, with only comments loving the Renaults & what shame to see them disappearing.

No one on ATDB has never (that I can think of) given any bad comments. Except for the Pictures Mod about the pics being too big, but I did ask that comment in my post.

Snorzac

When I posted my pic of 375, I got torn to shreds, by windy, sir joh, Apollo and greensockpuppet (who has been removed from the board),

Bus 400

I've rarely seen those guys on. Would you be able to show me/the rest the picture?

Snorzac

Sure, I don't have a copy on my computer but I will fish it out of the ATDB, it seems to have been lost when I changed computers.

Bus 400

It looks all right, but I personally wouldn't like the all white on the left. But that's easily fixed. Otherwise nothing wrong

Bus 400

I've decided that if I wish to get school shots from CGGS to park myself up on Mugga Way. I think I know why I might get in trouble on schools ites because of possibly being an up skirt photographer.

Irisbus Rider

If you don't want to put yourself in an awkward situation, I'd recommend you don't take photos at CGGS. I even tried to take photos on College St in front of Radford, in my Radford uniform, and I got asked to refrain from doing so, otherwise it'd be reported to the principal.

These days, it's just not easy to do this sort of thing. But if you want to, I'd recommend you ask permission from a teacher on duty.

Bus 400

Mugga Way is half way between the CGGS & CBGS, the school buses are on Hopetourn Cct (I think it is called) & Melb Ave. My mission for there is I have seen PR180.2 MkII & there they only buses I am missing out on.

Bus 400

I have added new shots to http://photobucket.com/ACTION. They were the first ones taken with my camera. They include

-14 Scania L94UB's
-2 MAN 18.310's
-2 Renault PR100.2 MkI's
-11 Renault PR100.2 MkII's

Comments welcome, especailly in relation to the tips given above.

Buzz Killington

can you be more specific as to which shots are new?

Buzz Killington

is there any reason why they are so small? it's a bit hard to give you feedback on photos that size, because zooming them in reduces the quality significantly

Snorzac

Phone pictures, that is why they are so small, when was the 898 picture taken?

Buzz Killington

I took the following quote as meaning he took them with an actual camera though

Quote from: TP 3000 on April 15, 2009, 07:45:59 PM

Yeah they were taken with my Kodak camera. It is the default system for uploading for me. Being fixed up ATM.

Buzz Killington

Definitely fix that up then, and get them to a width between around 640 and 820. You just can't appreciate a photo when its essentially thumbnail sized

Bus 400

#29
All fixed up with size of 800x600.

Buzz Killington

A definite improvement. Pick of the bunch is probably the 872 photo.

You may want to start a new thread and pick say, your best five or six photos and post them in there (the photos, not the links), so that everyone can see them quickly and give you some feedback

Bus 400

To finish of April Shot here are 2 pics of 898.
This first one is at Cooleman Court Terminus

This is my fav shot (for certain reasons) of 898 leaving Woden Interchange on a 65.

Buzz Killington

First one is pretty good, could do with some cropping though.
Second shot is terrible.

Bus 400

I know that with the second one. 2 other members in the area of the time know why the 2nd picture was posted.

Snorzac

Please start a new thread when you post pictures, I only have dial-up internet and when there are too many pictures that I have already seen it takes forever to view the new ones

Bus 400

I do most times. But I just wanted to finish of April with some members getting annoyed, but letting me still see my camera.

Busnerd

Please respect that some board users still only have dial-up and please limit to perhaps 10 photos per thread.

Alternatively, you can remove old photos before posting new one's if you wish to use the same thread.
