For those who are not yet aware: ACTION has leased the former Oxfam shop in Alinga St (near platform 4) which will become the "My Way Transit Centre". I expect it will also serve as the City Interchange supervisor's office and, according to the plans, it will include a driver's toilet.

The development application for the altered shopfront (including access ramp) is currently open for public comment.

Sir Pompously

Finally, a decent transit information centre! Better than the current location in the Arcade, a very obscure place to put an information centre. I am guessing it will eventually have top up machines etc inside there.

Do not remember the Oxfam Shop in Alinga Street, I am guessing it was near Tasuke?

The Oxfam shop was located just across from Platform 4....

The current office appeared guttered a few weeks back with an ACTPLA DA notice.

I can't see why it won't be approved, but hopefully my work has the job of supplying some of the goods to the new MyWay site & I'll try & find out the stages of development.

If you are old enough - it is the former location of the "Blue Moon Cafe". Corner Alinga St and Verity Lane.

Have a look at this home movie for what the Blue Moon Cafe (and Alinga Street) looked like in 1954. Also features a very quick shot of a bus (AEC Regal??).

By the way, there will also be a My Way centre in the Westfield Belconnen extensions.

They put one in the old ticket office in woden (the one nearest intertown platform) or to be jumping the pond, place one in the interchange and one in westfield

It is a crap location but they didn't have much choice once the library closed.

Yeah, I used to go there. OK sort of place.

The nearby Sunrise Cafe is a survivor from the old days, but now seems to push grog sales rather than sit diown meals.

There also used to be a real old style, NSW type "milk bar" around the corner (Opposite Platform 1) complete with fixed seating separated by art-deco style varnished timbered partitions, art deco light fittings, table service and old style Aussie Milk Bar tucker, (a bit like The Niagara at Gundagai).

Recent media report seems to confirm that the new ACT Government centre being fitted out in the Blue Moon Cafe / Oxfam shop will be more than an ACTION outlet...may be more like a Canberra Connect shopfront, with ACTION enquiries/tickets being just one of a number of services offered.

p_stampy

Canberra Connent? Do you mean for all licences/bills/parking/etc or something else?

I've heard of that place at the civic library, but you can only renew your licence there I think.

I have to get another licence re-newal soon :(

I seriously hope that's not the case. The last thing you want is the type of queues encountered at a Canberra Connect shopfront if you want to encourage passengers to top up or register their MyWay cards. Hopefully it's just a misunderstanding by the media outlet about what a MyWay transit centre actually does.

smitho

You may be right there. The notice on the front of the shop just refers to it as a Transit Centre (or something similar), so any Canberra Connect 'Shopfront' role would probably be fairly limited.

Fitting out work on the Civic Transit Centre in the old Blue Moon cafe site seems to at last drawing to a close - even the timetable pigeon holes have been constructed and are now occupied with the latest TT's. Hopefully drivers can look forward to having timely access to convenient conveniences in this new facility.

Will be interesting to see if they handle Deanes timetables and enquiries....my guess is that at this stage, it's unlikely.

Hopefully it will be open for the first day of Network 10 along with the Westfield Belconnen My Way Centre.

I had a peek into the City MyWay Centre, just a bit of paint work needs to be done (assuming the ACTION colours are going on the walls).

There was a DTG timetable booklet was in one of the brochure holders.

The City & Belconnen My Way centre's have both had there outside decals applied in the last week. The driver's toilet at the City MyWay Centre looked near complete last week, the walkway to the toilet looks quite nice & is carpeted. It is quite secure, with a locked door from the street & then a second locked door.

Can't wait to spend a penny there... on the other hand, it's better I wait.

City MyWay now has a sign on the door stating it is to open soon.

There is still a bit of internal signage to go though.

How old would u have to be to apply for it?

Sir Pompously

Old enough to be out of school, they would more than likely only take applicants who can work weekdays, and be available during business hours.

I wonder what is happening with the Information guys that use to work at the old information office in the City Bus Station?

CNG

I think most of them are bus drivers taking abit of time off from behind the wheel.

Buzz Killington

More likely to be drivers on a return to work program after injury

smitho

Two of the blokes in the Transit Centres are ex-clippes from Woden; one went to Civic and the other to the Belconnen MyWay shopfront.

The City MyWay centre is about to be resurrected - as a walk-in, self-serve ACTION Information office. It will feature the NXTBUS touch screen kiosk and brochure wall.

As at this morning, fit out was well advanced. Still awaiting an external sign, but most of the interior fixtures appear to be in place. New 'staff only' sign appears on staff toilet entrance.

It was opened at lunchtime today, it includes a TV screen showing all departures in the City & timetable/other ACTION services information.

Buzz Killington

There was something going on in the former Belconnen MyWay Centre this morning. Couldn't quite see what was happening though.

Being re-purposed as per Civic, perhaps?
