The blaze was reported by Canberra Railway Museum staff at 2.35pm.

Four ACT fire brigade pumpers from Fyshwick, Phillip and Gungahlin arrived shortly after to find the carriage well alight. District officer Jim Schlizio said firefighters had trouble extinguishing the blaze due to insulation concerns.
