ACT Labor’s Public Transport policy consists of the following features:
Extending Light Rail to Woden
ACT Labor will continue the process of extending the Light Rail line from Commonwealth Avenue to Woden.
“It’s the biggest infrastructure project in Canberra’s history. It’ll connect our city, carry millions of passengers and create thousands of new homes and jobs.”
110 More Zero Emissions Buses
Under ACT Labor another 110 zero emissions buses will be purchased over the next four years[1] – which will mean one third of the Transport Canberra bus fleet will be zero emissions.
“It’ll keep us on track to deliver a zero emissions bus fleet by 2040 – or even earlier.
“And more buses means more drivers – that’s why we’ll recruit 350 more drivers[2] into secure, well-paid public jobs.”
Faster & More Frequent Services
ACT Labor will introduce three additional Rapid Bus services:
- connecting Lanyon and the City
- West Belconnen (Ginninderry to City – with an additional Park & Ride)
- Molonglo Valley (northbound route across Molonglo River to either Belconnen or City)
“At the same time, we’ll increase the frequency of existing services, with local services running every 20 minutes on weekdays, and hourly on Sundays.”
In addition to increasing local services, ACT Labor have announced the following Rapid routes will have increased services:
- R2 between Dunlop and Fyshwick
- R10 between Denman Prospect and City
Fare-Free Fridays
ACT Labor will make public transport free on Fridays.
All public transport fares to be free on Fridays – for passengers who tag-on with MyWay+. It will initially be a one year trial to commence from November 2024[3].
