Construction tenders are now open to build the new Park and Ride facility in Wanniassa, which will make it even easier for Tuggeranong residents to use public transport.
The new Wanniassa Park and Ride will be located next to the Wanniassa Shopping Centre, near the corner of Langdon Avenue and Rylah Crescent, and will include about 60 parking spaces, two new bus stops and improved pedestrian and facilities.
“I am very pleased to see the tender for the Wanniassa Park and Ride now open. This is another step towards delivering better public transport across Canberra, no matter where you live,” Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris said today.
“Giving the Tuggeranong community access to an additional Park and Ride facility will make it even easier to combine private car and public transport use.
“The Park and Ride will be next to Athllon Drive, a key public transport corridor. New bus stops will also be built making it much easier to access to the high frequency Blue Rapid route, which travels between Kippax and Tuggeranong, and from mid-2017 will extend to Lanyon.
“The new bus stops will be located on the north and south side of Athllon Drive and will include large shelters and pull-in bus bays so motorists won’t have to queue behind buses.
“Pedestrian and cyclist safety will also be improved as footpaths in the area will be upgraded to connect the Park and Ride with the new bus stops and the existing path network. We will also build a signalised pedestrian crossing just south of Langdon Avenue (sic) to make sure there is easy and safe access to the bus stop.”
Construction on the new Park and Ride is expected to start in early 2017 and once complete it will be the 19th Transport Canberra Park and Ride facility in the network. There are already a range of Tuggeranong Park and Ride facilities, including two in Kambah and one in Chisholm, Calwell and the Tuggeranong Town Centre.
