The Featured Bus for August 2013 is ZIB-671 – a Leyland Lynx B60 evaluation bus
ZIB 671 was a Leyland Lynx B60 bus which was evaluated by ACTION in 1985 on loan from Jaguar Rover Australia. It was the second evaluation bus to carry this registration (Scania BR112H used 671 in 1984.)
As its first potential purchaser was Perth MTT, the body was built by J W Bolton (Perth) and included an evaporative cooling unit on the roof. It was loaned to Perth MTT (registration 6YY 320) between December 1984 and April 1985 before being sent to Canberra in June 1985.
While in Canberra, ACTION replaced the troublesome Leyland hydracyclic transmission with a Voith DIWA D851.2 three-speed automatic. Although this rectified one of the bus’s shortcomings, ACTION chose not to order any of these vehicles, opting instead for the Renault PR100.2.
This bus was next loaned to Hornibrook Bus Lines, Queensland (039 PSF) and was later purchased by Lever’s Coachlines in 1987 (MO-14). It remained with Deane’s Buslines until May 2012 when it was donated to the Sydney Bus Museum. In April 2021, Sydney Bus Museum transferred it to the Bus Preservation Society of WA.
