I found an error on ACTIONs website. It says on their website that if you wish to advertise on ACTION buses then contact APN Outdoor....oops, someone forgot to tell them it's now Bus Advertising.

I think you got the wrong section, lol.

ACTION rarely update their site, they had the specs sheet for the  Scanias saying that the last one was BUS 362 up until late last year.

As I write this, I'm sitting behind 870 - it has the 'BCC Rocks' ad on the back window. Good that BCC have different ads. But the BCC Rocks ad is not good.

There seems to be a fair few BCC ads around at the moment, haven't gotten a good look at any of them yet though

As I mentioned on twitter earlier, I spotted what appeared to be a new version of the "Give Way to Buses" ads.

I was a distance away but it was on an LED Scania. The ad featured an illustrated ACTION Bus (something with the green/orange livery) as well as a give way sign (but with more than just "Give Way" on the sign).

The other one is nearly as bad, fuck those kids look like losers. I think the message they are trying to send is, "all you dweebs come to BCC where you won't get bullied by the mini-bogans [but will have to put up with endless blather about their imaginary friend the sky bully*]"

*AKA God in case anyone didn't figure that out.

"The other one"- there are (at last count) FOUR other ones. The "jumping in the air" ad is the one that's nearly as bad; the rest are passable.

Large ones on artics eh? Hmm, sounds interesting..

They might be models. If they are I hope, for their sake, they are not locals.

I overheard a conversation between two ladies in a supermarket recently in which one mentioned that her daughter was one of the kids on the BCC ads.

987 is now sporting one of the aforementioned large Subway ads on its left hand side.

And don't know how new these are, but saw a .2 with a Canberra Times advert on its right side tonight.

I saw a Mk1 Artic with the Subway ad (well it had a sandwich on it) on it's left hand side this morning, I was too far away and driving in the wet to get a bus number.

I know that 704 and 988 have got them (the Subway ads that is). I haven't yet checked if they are all the same or if each one has a different sub on them.

The Canberra Times ad is on 959 (and most likely others). It's been there for a few weeks.

There is also a Tuggeranong MkI artic, possibly 719/721? Metrobus may have better memory than I do on the matter!

Thanks for the info there, 'MyWay', hopefully, this ad type will be more widespread, as it takes full advantage of the avaliable space on the bus.

I saw bus 720 with a subway add on it ... going along the parkway this arvo at about 430-445.

I didn't get a good look at it cos I was driving, but It looked a bit like it was stamped on, and didn't flow?

How very appropriate :P

And yeah, I think 720 was the one Metro and I saw, not sure......

BTW, if you mean how they are applied, I think this one is see through vinyl, as it is placed on windows, similar to that ad on the side of 898, and a few others.....I think.

They have before, many moons ago. It was a MAN SG192 in State Rail Intercity XPT Livery. I would say the cost of doing up an artic in vinyl would be too expensive for alot of companies to afford, or more than they would want to spend.

I Did see a good three MkI's with the new Advert at Tuggeranong when I passed on Tuesday.

I think Bus 979 might be getting an ad soon/has had an ad removed, as on Sunday there was a guy with his car parked next to Bus 979 in the Belconnen Depot sheds sitting down cleaning/touching up the side of Bus 979.

AOA's are a bit hard really - obviously they can only really do them when a company decides they want to a) take the 'all over' option and b) do it in Canberra.

Special Liveries, on the other hand, is something that we used to have a lot of, mainly for our national institutions (Questacon, War Memorial, Film and Sound Archives), and for community service kinda things (Recycling, Driver Safety, Human Rights Office). It would be great to see this sort of thing happen again.

I thought the patches of orange/blue "stickers" covering up the missing paint on the Renaults was bad enough, but 791 now has white patches on its right hand side.

Looks very, very tacky.

That's what I thought 791 had originally, but the pieces have straight edges, unlike 804 which as you say looks like a sticker that has ripped apart when you try to peel it off something

There's an ad for Canberra Motorcycle Centre on the back of buses which used to say "Wouldn't you rather be on a bike than on a bus?" The ad has now been modified with a sticker to say "... in a car?" Wonder what made them change it.

It seems more logical that anyone reading the ad would be in a car rather than on a bus, but whether or not that's the reason..

I've found the answer. The Bus Advertising contract (from the ACT Procurement website) includes a clause which does not allow any advertisement that "demeans or discourages the use of public transport" (among other things).

Noticed 322 with side advertising today, from window level downwards; first Scaia I'd seen with such advertsing. Also saw an Irisbus with similar format advertising.

In both cases, the buses look terrible - completely wrecks the flow of the corporate colour scheme.

They've had one side ad on the Irises/Scanias before - it was the pale green Monergy (sp?) one.

They're finally replacing the King O'Malley exhibit ads - 102 now has a full sized rear ad for Watson Blinds and Awnings.

Also, 300 is sporting a large offside ad for City Strata (as seen on 392?) - is this first Irisbus side ad which covers windows?

So far Buses 404 & 408 have been spotted with the below advertisement for Network 2012, Bus 399 was having this advertisement applied to it today.

With Bus Advertising hanging around Tuggeranong Depot today, we may see a few new advertisements on Tuggeranong buses this week.

Posted this on twitter yesterday. 305 now features a full-length side ad for TransACT. Ad looks great - can't say the same though about the bus! Pity there wasn't any advertising allowed when these buses were new.

In other advertising changes, it looks like the Fyshwick Markets and Canberra Motorcycle Centre contracts have expired as their spots are being taken by Canturf, Wokitup!, O'Connor Capital Chemist and ACU.

I seriously have to wonder about the contract with 'Bus Advertising'. I can only assume that they charge less for what they do than APN Outdoor used to, because why else would you sign a contract with them?

APN Outdoor may have been more expensive but have a think about the volume of advertisements. Under APN, essentially EVERY Renault had advertisements on every side of the bus. Now a solid percentage of them are ad-less and that's lost revenue.

It would seem a lot of revenue is being missed out on. APN can obviously bring those 'national' campaigns to Canberra. Since BA has had the contract, we've had very few of those and an awful lot of awful local campaigns.  Interior advertising has all but disappeared too - most Renaults used to be full of ads from front to back on both sides.

Internal ads for Palace Electric cinema have started to appear in the MANs (as well as ads on the back windows).

But yeah, national advertisers are sadly lacking. Subway is the only one I can think of (and those ads would probably be paid for by the local franchisees).

Correct, only saw they were for the NBN. I don't think an ad is that good if you have to be up close to know what it is about. Most ad's you see on the buses you know straight away what they are specially advertising & then you walk up to it for more information.

Spotted an MAN during the week which had two ads on the left hand side - a Centenary one just before the rear door, and a Subway one almost at the end of the bus. Think it was 445.

Must be the first time they've stuck two different advertisers on one side of the bus for a long time.

Look out for a full-back ad on 457. Not yet sure who's paying for it: the airport group or ACTION.

Meanwhile, the nightrider ad has been removed from 451.

No AOA changes yet. 508 and the 3 darts are still wrapped.

There's also a new ad on the back of 307, but couldn't see what it was for.

Some recent advertising changes:

new off-side ad for Supagas on 335 (I think it's new)
new full off-side ad for Hog's Breath Café added to 316
iiNet ads removed from back of 116 & side of 305
Masterton Homes side ads removed from 911 & 912; back ads also likely to have gone
Centenary of Canberra full-back ad on 117 has gone; expect those on others to have also gone
new full-back ad for Finite XL added to 407
Subway ads have started to appear on near-side of MANs

Masterton Homes BIG side advert for its Heysen Street display house remains on Tuggy training bus 860.  By coincidence, saw the training bus doing a S/R 404 service to Orana School on Friday morning and being driven just metres away from Heysen St.

(The former display house is now a private residence and has been significantly altered from the image appearing on ACTION's buses....for example, now has a 2nd storey).

Bus Advertising was bought out by Go Transit late last year - http://www.busadvertising.com.au/_blog/The_Bus_Blog/post/go-transit-announces-massive-expansion/

Maybe they can attract some more advertisers. The Renaults look pretty shabby without advertising, particularly the ones with the orange or blue vinyl stickers covering up the paint damage.

Add 520, 522, 526 as well as a couple of STAG's (i think one was 479...). Probably more though. Interesting to see artic advertising coming back (it was inevitable though to be honest!)

A cynic could suggest that the ads have been placed on artics to ensure they are being seen by school kids. But I would never suggest such a thing.

Also think these are the first side ads on the Scania 14.5s

With the ACT Govt's efforts to discourage the consumption of junk foods in schools, makes you wonder whether these Maccas advertising plugs on ACTION buses are sending out an inconsistent message.

The McDonalds ads do not breach the rules and therefore the Government / ACTION has no power to restrict or remove them. I am more concerned about alcohol and gambling advertising than questionable food advertising.

Agree with you that junk food ads don't breach any rules, but as owner and operator of the buses, I'd be surprised if the government didn't have any sanction over the content of adverts that appear on its buses.

Fleet wiki has been updated to include reported / known advertising changes, but it is far from complete (given how many ads there are at the moment).

So if you want to report more ads: note them here, send me a PM, send a message to ACT Bus on facebook, post a photo to facebook (or in a facebook message) or use the "contact us" form.

The Europe holiday expo and Maccas monopoly ads were not included in the update since these ads have been, or are about to be, removed. New McDonald's ads have appeared this week on STAGs and artics, but can't be sure if it's the same vehicles as previously reported.

The Europe holiday expo and Maccas monopoly ads were not included in the update since these ads have been, or are about to be, removed. New McDonald's ads have appeared this week on STAGs and artics, but can't be sure if it's the same vehicles as previously reported.

A few of them are the same (520, 523...etc)

things to look out for include SUBWAY Ads on the RIGHT of STAGs. Also, allhomes miniads covering the window of MANs & SCANIA 94UBs have had a white thing put around it, to cover the entire top half of the back and cover all parts of the window.

Makes me miss the days of consistent ad sizes. Cheaper companies seem to just make up different sizes/positions as they go, back in the Buspak days you'd pretty much always have them the same shape/size, nowadays the buses just look messy :(

Donut King side ads are starting to appear again.

One or both of the Nightrider full backs (422 & 425) have been replaced by a full back for Enlighten festival.

Just in time for the return to school - new McDonald's ads are appearing on the STags and possibly the artics. They are in addition to the Donut King ads.

Is that the side ads only over the windows? Saw one the other night, only thing I can think of is that they don't want to rip up the paint when they take off the ads :-P

Those are the ones. The irony being most of the buses they're on have panel damage which would be covered if they had ads on them..

853 has it too. Thats a good bus. But I am sick of my view being restricted by AOA and these new ads. At least 10 of the buses I got today had some sort of ad in my way! Really annoying! >:(

It's all good to enjoy buses and have an interest but a little life balance is required. You guys are getting intense about the placement of an ad.
Could it be possible the ads are being put there to reduce the sun and therefore heat entering the bus?

518 now has a rear ad for Bendigo Bank. Same to assume that other artics have, or will receive this ad too. Most STAGs I've seen lately do not have any ads.

Don't know if it was luck or intentional, but Go Transit have discovered that the Renault bus-back ad can be placed between the top of the engine grille and below the rear window on the PR100.3s. All they need to do is cut a hole for the brake light.

Currently only on 116, but likely to spread to the rest of the fleet soon.

Just use "artic". As we don't have anything other than Scania artics in the fleet, everyone knows what artic is referring to.

And a couple of stags also advertise a nursing home too.

One and the same. But for St Basil's Home Care instead. It is on at least 572, 571, 553, some STAG's and at least one MAN diesel.

It wasn't when I walked past it, one side was ad free, the others had C5 all over it, but an honest thought was that it was a half baked job and the bus had to leave for its next run from the depot before they had finished the AOA.... Well not really AOA at the moment.

Should've been pretty easy to tell - did the nearside ad cover the entire side of the bus, or did it cover from after the front doors to almost the rear?

I've seen buses go out with half an ad before, so it could be possible that it was an unfinished AOA I guess.

948 has a new ad for oporto on the right, one of the square ones like the ones showing up on some of the MANs. I believe this is the first new ad to be applied on a orange bus for some time (ignoring the BCC ones) and the first of its style on a orange bus

I've seen it in some MAN before - it looked no different to any other inside-bus advert though.

Meanwhile in a planet far away, someone at RiotACT is having a rant about 442's very descriptive righthand side ad. http://the-riotact.com/who-is-harry-and-why-does-he-love-gardens-action-bus-ad/154983

I think it works well, and would like to see the Fare stickers are applied on the window next time around (in the "green buses" anyway - the Renaults should continue where they are).

I've seen an all-over-side ad on Euro 5 bus 390, which is strange, cause I thought with 390 being the bus with all the special little MAN stickers all over it, that it would never had ads on it, oh well...

Can I ask, what does AOA stand for? i understand it's to do with the ads, but i can't find the definition anywhere.

On 390, you'll find that it is in Australian National University AOA (at least the last time I checked it was in AOA) so all the sides have advertisements as well as the back of the bus. The MAN stickers that recognise it is the first euro 5 stickers are at least still on the back of the bus. You can see them from inside the bus itself. The stickers are likely to be ripped off if they are in poor condition (I would think.)

What does AOA stand for? I understand it means All Over Advertisement.

On the subject of 390 and stickers, why was it that 374 never received any?

Quick!! Someone get a photo of 948's ad before it disappears!

Things is though, Oporto and McDonald's have paid for a contract on the buses so they will be ripped off if they get taken off before the due date.

Extra ad-on: The news about the new advertising laws reveals the fact that the promotion of fossil fuels will no longer be allowed as adverts on buses either. But I believe that 963, 967 and 971's taking action liveries will be safe because they encourage fossil fuels to be conserved.

There is now a new Scania which has a right hand side advertisement for STAR WARS.

I wonder what will happen to the Gaspods which have ACTEWAGL stickers. They don't directly advertise fossil fuels, but ACTEWAGL are a gas and electrics company.

The majority of BCC ads are gone from the Renaults.

Either the ban doesn't apply yet or else Zambrero and Subway are not regarded as "junk food", since new ads for both are appearing.

A number of new "Duncan's Plumbing" rear ads have appeared on Euro VI Scania's and I think I saw one on an artic or two. 565 is the only bus I remember specifically though.

Just wondering about the Right ad on 442, it says

"Harry [picture of a dog] loves gardens"

and gives no indication what its advertising or the company/ organisation it is advertising for...
any ideas?
While (at last sighting) the ad on 442 remains unchanged, there is a new side ad on 318 which has both "Harry Loves Gardens" and Willow Park Nursery.

So there's your answer, finally.

I wonder if Southern Cross Nine could include 9 shows in the a new AOA? The Block goes sideways, let us hear your VVVVOOOOIIICCCEE, or watch NRL 5 nights a week on Channel **.

So Cadbury chocolate isn't considered as junk food?

Only seen it on a few Irisbuses, but likely to appear elsewhere.

523 has one too.

They're advertising Cadbury Oreo Chocolate and I think that's an interesting combination.

Traversing the advertising tender, food items designated as "Red" on the ACT Vending machine policy aren't permitted to be advertised on buses.

Allhomes.com.au have hit back in the advertising war. They've now got AdShels and are rolling out both large and small side ads on buses.

No new AOAs though. Yet.

Go Transit have been awarded the new advertising contract for the following 3 years.

Nothing really new in the contract, except this time 20 buses must be kept clean. Plus City Loop & trial buses are to remain ad free.

In other news, a new ad for 104.7 is coming this year.

944 has a rear ad below the window for Go Transit advertising, the first non-BCC ad on a Renault for quite some time (a green that is absolutely revolting on the orange livery).
