Title: ACTION Policy: Taking Photos/Video of Buses
Post by: Buzz Killington on November 19, 2012, 06:20:54 PM
Following a request, ACTION have supplied us with their policy for taking photographs or video of their buses.

QuoteACTION would like to acknowledge that there is no law in place to prevent a person from collecting photographs or video in public areas. However, ACTION's operational staff have special responsibilities to maintain a high degree of diligence and to investigate suspicious incidents such as a person taking photographs or videos.

ACTION employees are advised to enquire after the reason for collecting photos. If the activities of the person collecting the photos are causing, or likely to cause a safety issue, nuisance, annoyance or unacceptable invasion of privacy to other people they will be requested to cease collecting photos or video.

So a person taking photographs or video recording = suspicious incidents. Doing so out in the open cannot be considered "suspicious" and as for privacy considerations, you've got to be kidding! Bus drivers should not have any expectations of privacy in a public area.

They can ask you to stop taking photos but you dont have to comply. In a public place you can photograph anything you want. All interchanges are considered public spaces. ACTION do not own them, they are either privately owned (Westfield Belco) or ACT Government property, administered by TAMS.

Also, they take video of you when you ride the bus and at several interchanges. The hypocrisy is startling.

I suspect a lot of it has to do with how individuals interrupt the rules. Also if someone complains, as a customer service industry the complaint has to be followed through & acted on.

Yeah - don't.

As long as you obey all other rules (pay your fare, don't create a nuisance, keep off red floors and step-wells) there shouldn't be a problem. But DON'T USE A FLASH !!
