339 now has a yellow bike rack, and a pr2 (953?) has a black one, a first for the 'orange' buses

952 has had a black one for ages if that's what you mean.

oh, it was 337 that had the black one. sorry, thought it had been 339

Skitube

330 and 337 had black bike rack, so presumably 337 had its bike rack replaced? does 330 still have its black one?

This topic has been split to discuss bike rack allocation. As the Photo Gallery will show, both 330 & 337 have had a DL2 rack and 330 has also had a VeloPorter 2 (and possibly still does).

Many (and I mean MANY) buses will have bike rack replacements - usually caused by accidents/incidents/collisions. Probably half the Irisbuses are now back to having DL2s. It's far less obvious when a DL2 is replaced with a new DL2.

330 still did earlier this week.

EDIT: 337 still has a veloporter

And if you look closely you can notice bike rack changes (DL2 to DL2 I mean). Some of the MAN diesels have recieved new ones lately (499 springs to mind) with a bit of black on it (I can't explain in words where...I'm too tired sorry). And 334 has a slightly different colour yellow on its one...to me, small changes between DL2 and DL2 (its fine when it is between DL2 and Veloporter) seem a bit unneccesary and somewhat pedantic sorry...a bit hypocritical considering I'm helping here :)

Following front end repairs, Bus 935 has joined 952 in having a VeloPorter 2 bike rack.

Bus 503

330 has been going around lately with a DL2 rack. Think this change was only completed recently.

It has had it since at least August.

Might mean all bike rack replacements henceforth are to be Sportworks Veloporter racks...unfortunately.

I quite like the VELOPORTER racks. They look quite good on the MAN's (18.320 and 10) and the Irisbuses. Although the DL2's do tend to look better on the new SCANIA's.

King of Buses

569 has a Veloporter rack.

King of Buses

Bus 503, you now have a Veloporter Bike rack.

I think I saw 579 with one of those black/grey bike racks the other day, and yet, I thought ACTION were putting their new stock of yellow ones on them  :o

But that's not actually a change, is it?

I don't want to have to do it, but posts that are not on-topic may be deleted.

King of Buses

Not much a change compared to others listed except the pattern of bike rack fitting, but 585 has a DL2 rack.

Bus 503

Bus 337 now carries a DL2 bike rack.

Meanwhile, Bus 532 has been decorated for Christmas!

ACTION has put up photos of 464 with it's rack on facebook. Also mentions trials staring/having started on artics and 'some' plural form

That's the new cost saving measure, drivers pick up their bag, whatever else they may require, a spanner & a bike rack....

While I imagine you must be bored again to be giving answers like that, :P
I presume they removed it as they can't operate with a rack in route service yet with a STAG. Therefore, remove the rack, 464 can be in service. Not sure whether it'll be the same with 515 or not.

What is it with the new stock of those grey racks anyway? the Vetoporter or whatever you call them ones. You guys ever tried using both? - theres quite the difference between them, and the grey ones are really not all that nice, esp to operate.
I ride buses everyday with my bike, and I always dread seeing a bus arrive with one of them equipped, sure they're more secure, but it is easier to obtain injuries just by putting/taking the bike on and off them, including getting your fingers caught in the rubber grapple. Not to mention that they're not as appealing as the yellow racks...

I did notice a new supply of the yellow racks with the black stickers, what's happened with using those?

oh, by the way, would I be correct to presume that during the 'trial' any of the steertag/artics with racks are placed on a service will forbid people from using the racks like they did back in 2005?
or... are the small selection of buses going to be removed from service temporarily,
or as I noticed above, they're just going to take a bus, whack on a rack, take it for a few trips (like the one I saw on Wednesday in Red Hill), then take it off, and put the bus/es back on service (and duck tape the hole)?

Maybe you should go tell Sportworks that - I'm sure they value feedback.

"Yellow with a black sticker..." What type of bike rack is that? A DL2 perhaps?

To make it easier for everyone to understand what you mean, here are the two different types of bike racks you can find on the ACTION network.

This is called a DL2 bike rack. It is yellow in colour.

And this is called a Veloporter bike rack. It is black in colour.

Please refer to bike racks like this - it's so much easier to understand what you're trying to say.

I doubt it - do note that ACTION are still in the early process of testing the longer buses with bike racks so we won't know much more until a little way further down the track.

Well I'm a bus enthusiast who pays no attention to specifics, so yeah, whatever the 'yellow coloured metal' racks are called. When I refered to the black sticker, it appears to be a new set. I think one of the E5 500s has one - this is pretty badly done, I know, but this is basically what I meant taking from your picture. Keep an eye out for one. http://i.imgur.com/xELpsmI.png

Some DL2s have a black 'sticker' (feels like sand paper actually) on the side furthest from the kerb.  499, 560 and 947 amongst others have this.

I saw 393 the other day and didn't really notice because it had a Veloporter in the past. But, apparently, it had a DL2 in more recent times (going by this photo I have taken towards the end of last year).

Barry Drive

Based on Fleetwiki, that's 393's fourth (minimum) bike rack - 2 of each.

412 also had a change this week.
