Gungahlin Town Centre and Central Area
11. energy efficient public transport system.
Energy
1. Make provision for the public transport system to be an integral part of
the structure of the Town Centre and Central Area.
Public transport
1. Integrate public transport routes, including public transport facilities,
into the most intense activity area of the Town Centre.
2. Locate public transport routes and stops within easy walking distances
with numerous opportunities for boarding and alighting.
3. Ensure that the Inter-Town Public Transport System is compatible with
light rail.
4. Ensure that the residential sectors are conveniently served by public
transport.
7. Provide a street system that facilitates economical and convenient
public transport provision.
8. Make provision for the future introduction of an Intertown Public
Transport system.
7. Boulevards are preferred for the incorporation of both local and intertown
public transport and the northern one is preferred for the
incorporation of the Inter-town Public Transport (IPT) route in its own
right-of-way.
6. The location of public transport facilities (including future light rail IPT
stops) is conceived as part of the pedestrian system and reinforces that
system

East Gungahlin
j) To ensure housing densities support a viable, accessible, frequent and
energy efficient public transport system.

KENNY/PART HARRISON
A. A Group Centre with adjoining higher density housing is to be developed
at a major road intersection with Horse Park Drive.
C. A local bus route is to be provided through the suburb via the Group
Centre, areas of higher density and primary school site, encouraging
public transport usage.
D. Opportunities are to be provided for small-scale community facility sites
in open spaces in convenient locations predominantly along public
transport routes.
5. Ensure Sandford Street extension to Federal Highway connection.

THROSBY
B. A local bus route to be accommodated through the suburb via the
local centre, areas of higher density and schools.
1. Road connections to the suburb to be from extensions of Anthony
Rolfe Avenue and Wells Station Drive.

CRACE
9. Community facility sites should be located, where possible, close to public
transport and in places where, for reasons of safety, people already have a
cause to congregate such as the local centre.
14. The road hierarchy should be legible, connected to the wider network and
provide good and safe access to all users and encourage high levels of public
transport usage. Roads should be designed to achieve the appropriate speed
environment without the necessity to introduce traffic calming devises such as
raised platforms and chicanes.
B. A local bus route will be accommodated through the suburb via the local
centre and areas of higher density, facilitating and encouraging public
transport use.
1. The suburb is to be accessed from Gundaroo Drive from a single access
point and Nudurr Drive at two points.
6.12 Public Transport
Overall there is potential for good public transport services to and from Crace. The Crace
Concept Plan makes provision for a central bus route through the suburb, generally meeting the
400m walking distance criteria for over 95% of all housing in the suburb. See Figure 3.
The proposed bus routes through Crace would provide an efficient service via a relatively direct
route through the suburb and would directly link to the commercial and community facilities at
the Local Centre.

4.5 Public Transport
Bus routes are intended to use the Collector roads (Burrumarra Street and Jabanunnga Street) as
well as Horse Park Drive upon its completion as an arterial road.
Actual bus routes and the location of bus stops will be determined by ACTION at the
appropriate time to ensure at least 90% of dwellings will be within 400 metres of a bus stop.
The extension of Jababunnga Ave (the north-south collector road) is unlikely to be required for
a bus route, but its design as a collector road will ensure allowance is made for possible public
transport links if required in the future.
Potential bus route will run along Horse Park Drive. Provision of bus stops will be required to
ensure dwellings are located within 400m of a bus stop.
