The recent industrial action affecting ACTION Buses has had an impact on Canberra's senior citizens, many of which are dependent on buses to get around.

ACTION maintenance staff are refusing to work overtime as part of their campaign, which has resulted in buses not being able to be used in service due to maintenance issues, breakdowns and not being refueled.

As a result, some weekend services have been downgraded in order to ensure enough buses were available to service the Monday morning peaks. A Sunday timetable has been in effect all weekend, whilst all services were canceled last Sunday, 10 April.

Paul Flint, ACT Council on the Ageing executive director told ABC News "A lot of older people that attend churches go by buses and so it is very disruptive for those people and they feel socially isolated because of it."

"There's some people who've told us about the uncertainty of.. whether they can get a bus"
