Routes and Timetables / Re: December/January timetable
Last post by Barry Drive - December 09, 2023, 09:21:53 AM
The GTFS for the December / January period has been released. Full school holiday timetable will apply from 18 December until 25 January 2024 - there will (again) not be any reduced timetable between Christmas and New Year.

Since New Years' Eve falls on a Sunday, there will be a special timetable operating: normal Sunday timetable will apply with added "Rapid" routes only operating from 10pm until 1am (excluding R8 which runs until 1130pm). All travel on buses and trams will be free after 5pm.

No timetables available yet.

All I know is I like all the yutongs now, no more retarded sounds coming out of them and both riding them and having them pass by is enjoyable.

Media reports on the change to the new sound, give the official description Acoustic Vehicle  Alerting System. You really needed to know that didn't you.

Reported in the Riotact last Sat.
The PTCBR has obtained some info under Freedom of Information on the Light Rail proposed extension to Russell as part of Stage 1.
It seems 3 routes in the City were considered, but the proposal eventually foundered on getting timely access to Commonwealth Land along Constitution Avenue and at Russell approved. In particular Defence was so slow that the window of opportunity was lost.

The 3 City routes canvassed were:
Alinga St - City Walk - Allara St to Constitution Ave, but NCA felt it might compromise future arrangements in the area (but compromising convenient public transport access was apparently not a concern);
Northbourne Ave - Vernon Circle - to Constitution Ave, but NCA were worried about compromising City Hill (I wonder how?);
Northbourne Ave - London Circuit East to Constitution Ave, the NCA preference.

Also the NCA wanted it wire free through the City and along Constitution Ave.

I think included in the lost opportunity was any chance of developing Stage 2a (with an eye to the longer term) to go both ways round London Circuit to Commonwealth Ave.

Quote from: Barry Drive on December 04, 2023, 09:52:38 AMThat photo was from the Media event to announce 748's arrival.

Can't locate the reference right now, but Minister Steel has stated all 4 Elements will be in service by the end of this year - so that has to be accurate.

As for the chargers: they were also featured at the Media Event. From what can be seen, they have been installed.
So the Media Event was at Belconnen then. The image in TC News showed a charger with two connectors looking as if they had been in use. So I had taken this to be at the Tuggeranong Depot. Even if visibly appearing complete, the actual electrical cabling and power supply integration from the grid at Belconnen cannot be visually determined from the image as complete.

The number plate issue is now even more interesting. It was visible in the TC image. How was this bus moved to Belconnen displaying plates not yet registered? Transported?  Movement permit? Plate temporarily authorised as Trade plate? Issued prior to registration!

Interesting detail. BUS748 is pictured in today's Riotact displaying what appears (partially hidden by bike rack) a BUS748 registration plate, but an ACT Rego check indicated that there was no registration record.

Photo of the Month / Photo of the Year - Round 1
Last post by Barry Drive - December 02, 2023, 09:45:51 AM
Photo of the Year voting time is once again upon us. As has been the case for the last few years, there will be 3 preliminary voting rounds - but this time each round will consist of only 7 photos.

Each preliminary round will commence on a Saturday, with the final round to commence on 26 December.

Photos have been scattered across the rounds to allow for an even distribution of monthly winners - but order in which photos are presented have been randomised.

Here are the first 7 entries. Top 3 photos (where possible) will advance to the final round.
