Spotted one of the 88# series (886 or 889 i think) tonight, with a brand new rear panel.
Seen that around. 985 is also running around with one too, has been for a while. Looks interesting without the red and yellow above the bumper.

Bus 365 will be at Tuggeranong Workshop for a few days after the front side windscreen was damaged
Bus 938 will be in to have its brakes replaced. Towards the end of the shift, it sounded like there was no rubber on the brakes & at time felt like we had a flat tyre.
Bus 869 was in for its lubrication service today.

I'm sorry to tell you this but buses (like most other road going vessels) do not have rubber brakes, they have carbon brakes.
I knew there was usually something between the metal park of the brake (disc) & the bit the brakes slow down. All I remember is that it was making an annoying noise. But before all of this the air thingy ma bob was releasing quite a lot each time the bus stopped
TP3000, you have no idea what you are talking about! Try doing some research on the design of the system before jumping to conclusions about what is wrong!
That was what the driver said, he could also smell brake burning smell & the whole steering wheel set shook. Also while standing up the front with the driver I would hear the weird noise & how it got worse as the shift went on. Also in the beginning the air was releasing each time the bus stopped & continued as the bus left.
The air releasing has nothing to do with the brake. The air release problem would be a faulty air pressure regulator. The air compressor on most buses runs constantly and has a pressure regulator to keep it at a constant level. The only way the brakes could be involved is if there was inadequate air pressure to stop the maxi brakes from applying themselves (they are spring actuated). Its possilbe the noise was a warning indicator in the brake lining, but i very much doubt it. The linings last a long time and are changed before they become an issue.

971 had its driver side mirror repaired after a Scania decided to smash into it at Woden Interchange.

345 is in for repairs after someone damaged the front left panel of the bus, apparently this is the second time that this has happened to 345.
While most people should know that 382 is back on the road & has been for 2 weeks now & goes quite well.
359 which has been at the rear of Belconnen depot for about a week has returned to service. It had a few panels on the right hand side replaced, these panels were at the rear.
347 was booked into workshop for a blown brake bulb. However during the shift, the Wayfarer validator became stuck to the bus & remained closed

The Supervisor used his special key & the key wouldn't move. So we did a 2 Return loop with no machine this morning. Apparently the workshop said that they would fix the validator but didn't have time to fix the tail light. But the workshop guys do have bigger muscles having to lift a lot of things all day

I am sorry, run that one by me again?
Well I don't mean to pick on supervisors, but they spend most of their time doing paperwork & sometimes dealing with interchange garbage, I mean passengers (Us good passengers rarely have anything to do with the supervisors).
While the workshop guys have their equipment & anything they need to fix buses, which can be heavy.
I am just trying to see how exaclty that flows in a sentence. I think I understand what you are trying to say, however the way you have worded it makes it sound like you are telling the big boy's at the workshops what big muscles they have......

From the looks of it, half the Belconnen Fleet are waiting at the workshops.
-370 went as the ABS light fuse was playing up
-808 was put on the bricks after having a weird smell for most of the afternoon.
-822 appears to have work being done on its front axle. As apparently the front wheels are facing to the centre
-972's bus stopping dash light went yesterday. To fix this problem, the whole dash board needed to be taken off & for this one of the bolts needed work done on it.
On 22 June 2009, Bus 380 bashed the gates at Junior Girls Grammar this afternoon. There is a gouge in the right side where the body works angles up. Luckily it just missed the window though. My camera was in another bus & it was leaving. Just to clear things up I spotted it at City West Layover & not at CGJGS.
380 has now had a repaint job & was spotted drying at the back of Belconnen Depot.
I spotted 827 on tow going up the parkway yesterday arvo, a little after 4pm.
Yeah it died at around 13:30 at Woden Interchange, the Tuggers Mechanic was checking it over at about 14:00. Another MkI 800 series bus also was withdrawn from service yesterday morning. Next comment will not be made.
990 is also in the Belco Workshop Layover this afternoon.
781 was spotted on the Reed St South side of Tuggers Workshop, with the back end closer to the ground then most PR100.2MkI'S
Did you think its rear air bags could of bean low or leaking?
Having no idea about the air bag things, it looked liked the suspension had gone. But the weird thing is that major work isn't really done at Tuggeranong Depot on weekends & most buses just sit on the bricks (other side of the workshop building) over the weekend, with quick fix buses being done on Sunday night/real early Monday morning. Also the workshop doors were shut & there was room for 781 on the bricks. But I don't think that they would be that desperate for 781 as quite a few less buses are on duty tomorrow.

I doubt the suspension would have gone, I'd say it had a leak in the airbags. IIRC, 959 is like that.

Not really minor but BUS 148 has re-entered service. I saw it yesterday on a route 17 with Fraser behind the wheel. It is really, really shiny!
Spotted 118 broken down on Barry Dr yesterday morning.
At around 20:00 Bus 327 broke down in Bruce & was towed back to Tuggeranong Depot at 22:00.
Bus 375 broke down at the same time on Drakeford Drive KAMBAH. The mechanic came down, the water pump needs replacing, the air con pump needs replacing 2 belts were replaced on the side of the road. 4 of the coolant tanks went dry steam came out the back for a while. So that is where it has been. The driver that always has it hasn't had it for weeks. That could be the reason for the bike rack been off.... I don't think they are legal in NSW

Probably. They break down all the time. I did see 110 being followed back in to the depot by the breakdown van at about 11am so it could have been it.

956 has a near rear engine hatch, it looks very naked, as its missing the reflective stripes.
760's new front looks very shiny! Plus seeing all these orange stickers covering up the ripped paintwork, they look so silly, they don't even match properly.
980 was towed back to Belco Depot last night, and 949 is missing an engine at the moment.
A 8** is at the back of Tuggeranong Workshop & has been there for quite a while with its back end quite low down.
Keep in mind that buses run on air suspension. More than likely the rear bags leak air faster than the front in this bus, causing it to sit on the ground.
I don't know if this would count as minor, but apparently all Renault Buses are being fitted with this device that sounds an alarm if the driver opens the door to his cockpit & the handbrake is not on. They have this same system in Adelaide.
I would assume this is a result of the court case involving the bus crashing into Kippax Medical Centre.

Ok, I know on the Scania's you can't shut the front doors by the outside switch if the handbrake isn't on, I'm not sure about the MAN's. I know this as a story was going around that if the bus was left in gear & you closed the doors through the outside switch the bus would drive off. So driver & I tested this theory (the legal way).

Warranty did not appear to be up. 328 was there getting parts in the rear re fitted, like new flooring and insulation and wall panels. 331 was also there, did not see what for.
Bus 360 was sent to workshop after a very strong smell of CNG near the back seat & a lot of heat rising from the engine. Nearly knocked me out.

Not the only thing it dropped. The bolt that the engine hangs from the engine mount on broke dropping the engine several inches this tearing a hose. What a genius design.

374 was checked out by Belconnen Workshop with an engine sounding like death warmed up. It was back on runs an hour later & sounded the best it has for ages.

Yesterday i saw 389 broken down with its hazard lights flashing at the bus stop at capital self storage on athllon dr, this about 3.55-4.00
I can't be certain which bus it was, but a call went over the 2-way for drivers to check their buses with an oil leak near the rear doors. There was a puddle of oil at Merici College, Daramalan College & Brindabella Christian College with unconfirmed reports of an oil puddle out at Fairbairn Park
379 was on Tuggeranong bricks with a smashed window on the left side.
Buses 103,104,106 & 107 all had to go back to workshop on completion of shifts for some work, but I didn't catch the second half of the message.

I may of found out the story. A rock was thrown at a gas bus recently & it went straight through to the other window. It occurred in the dangerous suburb of Calwell

It was Bus 368 where the rock went straight through (was in Calwell). This was ACTION's third incident this week, with Deanes recording another incident.
Kambah ain't that bad, quite a lot of ACTION workers live in Kambah.

If anyone has been past Belco depot this afternoon they would have noticed that the workshop layover has flooded over onto the Coulter Drive side of the depot. Going past I counted 7 Irises.
I drove on the Cohen Street side this afternoon (not long after an older member of the forum had left the depot). That side was chockers. It looked like half of the Belconnen fleet were there with 1/4 on the roads & 1/4 in the sheds.

Ed reports that 375 broke down today after a bike on the bike rack touched the windscreen wiper causing it to stop.
A gas bus is at Tuggeranong workshop as the doors wouldn't shut. It went in yesterday & was still there today. Don't know what number.
391 is also on the Belconnen bricks
362 is likely to be booked in after the gear box kept on stuffing up. Going up hills the bus would rev & then roll to a stop.
958 was towed back to the depot this morning. Don't know where or when but I saw it been unloaded from the truck at about 8am.
390 was put in the workshop as of reports of technical faults. What I witnessed was as it was accelerating it would make the sound the Irisbus's do-engine revs high, but not as much power is given to the wheels.

That's generally how buses move lol.
But seriously, it may mean it has been cut back, something that needs to be done to avoid high fuel consumption.
Not really, if you cut power to a vehicle, yes you may use less fuel, however you get less power, the bus has to work harder to get up hills etc. therefore more chance of overheating etc. and more chance of breakdowns and accidents.
Yep, that's exactly right. The Iris' are a perfect example of that.
Although, with the MANs, it needed to be done, 60L/100km (IIRC) is slightly excessive.
390 still flies on straights, it just did that thing when turning right from Coulter Drive to Ginninderra Drive. But back at LSBS the driver got a call to take 390 to workshop & he told them he already planned to do that. But then again I've been told there were a few hiccups when the Scania's came into service & again when the gas MAN's came into service.
Does anyone know which Irisbus is in the air at Belconnen Depot? What I mean be this is that for the last week an Iris has been on the stilts things on the stickout bit of the shed on the Coulter Drive side. I haven't been able to/bothered to get any closer to check out the number, but it is a bit of a sight.
Apparently around 16 buses had broken down from Belconnen Depot today. The last one I know of was 106 in Gungahlin around 17:15.
I saw 130 crawling along the shoulder of Athllon on a packed northbound 11 with the hazards on this arvo, not sure if it broke down or not.
Belco workshops has once again overflowed onto the Coulter Drive side of the depot.
Bus 400-The Iris on the hoist is 306 which is apparently having a long overdue engine replacement.
Cool, can it get something other then an Iris engine, it might last longer then.
There was only 1 bus on Belco bricks at 12:00
wow, as I walked home from work there was a supervisor moving buses around taking some around to Coulter. I counted 9 Irises including 306
They must of known what the heat does to the buses.

304 has had a new engine recently. This was because a driver destroyed the engine-the previous day the bus had run dry of coolant & the driver ended the run in the City & workshop came & refilled it. The next day another driver took 304 out & it had run dry as of from Spence. So from Spence to the City 304 had no coolant.

304 was sighted today as slow as ever. Couple of points to note, there is no way that the bus would have got from Spence terminus to Spence shops without coolant in it. If the radiator is even half full it will over heat in no time at all. The irisbus have an advanced (hmmmmm) engine management system, which automatically shuts off the accelerator when it over heats (real handy when you are halfway across an intersection let me tell you).
Other point to note is that if it had an engine change, it would have taken more than a day to do so. I'm 99% sure they don't have spare engines for the iris's just sitting around. I'd be fairly certain that 306 is the first iris to have its engine rebuilt which is taking some time as it would have to be rebuilt whilst the bus awaits its return (the .2s etc dont take as long as ACTION change the engines over and then rebuild it whilst its out of the bus, so pretty much none of the buses will have the same engine they had in them when delivered). It is much more effective to have a spare engine to change into a bus as it dramatically reduces down time.
128 broke down in Tuggers this arvo, and was attended to by the breakdown van. Not sure what the problem was but the mechanic had the driver rev it and the engine sounded like a squealing tyre. Whatever it was, the mechanic fixed it after about fifteen minutes.
Meanwhile, the Supervisor Van replaced it on the 64, although by the time the Van got there, 122 had pulled up to operate the next 64 and so there was the amusing sight of 122 commencing a 64 with the supervisor van running just ahead of it.
Oh and 311 was putting out a fair bit of smoke too
sounds like a fanbelt problem to me.

375 has the lower front left panel missing
I am not sure which bus it is, but one was hit by a car coming out of a side road & then drove off
809 broke down on Drakeford Drive ISABELLA PLAINS tonight. It looked like the front left side was lower then the rest of the bus, but it didn't look like a flattie. I later spotted the breakdown van flying up Yamba Drive FARRER.
396 broke down today, was driven to the depot after the conclusion of a 58 after the air-conditioner began heating. The following 319 was coved by the same driver from Tuggeranong.
For a change Tuggeranong workshop has a big backlog. Buses have been parked at right angles to the normal bricks.
You should see Belconnen.....
The following buses will have reason to visit the workshops after today:
315- slow, body rattles, fucked gearbox, faulty a/c, the list goes on
321-Broken Side desto
392-Air conditioner Failure
396-Air conditioner Failure
397-Air conditioner Failure
398-Air conditioner Failure
992-Operating with no validator
999-Overheating followed by major airleak
A few of the Redex buses did have air con failures. But a few of the drivers leave them off for a few periods as they say it is too cold in the new MAN's. Bloody whinging Belconnen poms (I'm 50% pom so it is all right)

The a/c was on but blowing out hot air on all occasions. The driver of 396 said that it was at 39.5 degrees on the bus when she got it back to the depot.
I don't believe the problem remains with those MAN A/C units. I sympathise with any driver that has to put up with that!
Don't the MAN gassies have Thermo-Kings as well? They never encountered such problems.....

i've always found thermo kings to be the most unreliable and cheap units out there
321 was involved in a rear ender on Cohen st at about 3:20pm this afternoon. It was hit from behind as the bus turned into the depot. The driver and passenger in the car were okay however the bus driver was checked by paramedics after complaining of a sore back. The bus was driven back to Tuggeranong at about 4pm by another driver only sustainig minor damage to the rear bumper. The car was still at the top of platform 5 when I walked past about 30min ago waiting for the towy.
I know all this as I witnessed the accident and I am not assuming anything, if you were around at that time you may have seen my directing traffic.
Clearly they weren't observing the RTA's recommended safety cushion

Saw 951 been unloaded from the tow truck at Belco depot just after 5pm this afternoon. I am assuming that it broke down whilt operating a route 319 as that is what it had on the desto.
306 is still having its engine rebuilt. 723 is also at Belco, it was on the hoist at some stage last week and is now behind the hoist thingo with blocks of wood stopping the bus from rolling. It really is a sad sight, could this be the end for 723?

121 BUS 121 may be the first PR100.3 to be written off. While operating a service some weeks ago the two rear left wheels fell off the bus, no joke. It took the tow truck three hours to get it back to the depot. When this happened the bus sustained major chassis damage as well as some minor panel damage. Since it has returned to the depot it has not moved at all.
396 Just another a/c failure, doe this surprise anyone?
975 I no way will the workshops pay any attention to this but the screen on the desto control has decided to do a few strange things. It will come up with '6 Woden {scroll} Destination=viaRED_PAGE' while on a 6 and then at random times it changes to japanese which is just plain weird, this is no joke.

Something wrong with 788 today. Arriving at Woden, the driver was revving it the whole time at the platform - a supervisor got on after a minute or two and spoke to the driver for a while, then asked if everyone could "get another bus". It then did a lap of the interchange and parked, presumably for the mechanics to come and have a look.
If it was revving a lot there might have been an air leak, revving the bus helps to build up air.
BUS 880 has been painted in to full corporate livery for the first time in its life.
BUS 121 will be fixed but its waiting for some parts

304 lost all of its coolant at the ANU today. The coolant cap was picked up by 370 and was returned to belco depot by the driver of 990.
130 overheated this afternoon and the throttle cut out in the middle of the Belco Way/Haydon Drive Intersection
128 broke down on Athlon Drive
368 died at Cameron Avenue.
It was so hot that even 990 overheated
Hmm, good thing I took one look at 130, considered the fact that it was 38 degrees and decided on catching 353 instead.

I checked the Wayfarer history - 880 was not in service between 28 November and 14 December. So 15 December does appear to be the first day in service in (old) corporate livery.
Hmmmm, could it have been involved in an accident, and got repaired; and as a consequence, had the AOA removed?
Sounds unlikely, but I guess we'll just wait and see where the next AOA ends up!
I just got back from a quick trip to the woolworths servo near the belco depot. 755 was just outside the depot on Coulter Drive with the Tow Truck in attendance. It had 757 there so it's been there a while.
Tow truck was busy last night. There was also an oil (diesel?) spill at Tuggeranong Interchange. Sounds like the bus had to be towed back to the depot.
According to a post on ATDB, 760 had a car run up its backside the other day. Not too much damage by the looks of it.
The leak seen at Tuggeranong would probably have been 940. It threw a leg out of bed last week.

A bus full of students had their first or second day back at school spoiled today when BUS 988 ran into the back of a ute at the round about where William Slim Drive and the Barton Highway meet this afternoon while operating the school run. The bus sustained some pretty major damage and the driver was injured, not sure about the occupants of the ute. Won't be seeing 988 for a while.

Who throws a rock (or any projectile for that matter) at a bus? What does it achieve? All it does is make work for a panelbeater. Those people should b put against a wall and shot, in my opinion. Wastes of oxygen.
Is there any further info on the incident with 988? I bet the brakes failed...
I've not heard anything officially about 988 (and wouldn't reveal it if I had). But in general let me say this: it is not a good idea to cut in front of a bus (especially a loaded articulated school bus) at an intersection (or anywhere for that matter) and then expect the bus to be able to stop without hitting you.

A call went out on the bus radio yesterday arvo around 1530 saying that there was somebody throwing rocks at buses from the underpass near Red Rooster in Wanniassa. Absolutely moronic behaviour and I hope those responsible are caught.
twice in 10 minutes in the same place. A certain driver got stuck up the radio room for not sending the supervisors there to deter them and protect drivers, and the general public from those stupid morons.
This should be taken very seriously by drivers and reported by drivers - radio room to police immediately to ensure these people are caught and locked up, that will take the smile off their face, as the next bus they see will be the 82 through the fence of the bimberi centre

As mentioned on twitter 306 has returned to service. 322 brew a turbo today as some drivers (Ed) and a mechanic found out after copping a face full of smoke.

121 was sighted back in service yesterday, once again not really minor.
I believe 961/962 had an accident on Kingsford Smith Drive this morning, no visible damage from my viewpoint at least 100m away. There was a Police car behind it with the lights on so I assume it was an accident
403 had some issue today. Looked like the rear LHS airbag had completely ran out of air.
873 died on Mugga Way today while operating s/r 823. It was towed back to the depot arriving just after 6pm, that would have been a long trip back to Belconnen
The brake system failed on Bus 384 this afternoon. I was informed by the driver that all the way from the City on a 942 the buses computer was running tests. Then at stop 1 at Jamison Shops, with the doors open the bus started to roll forward. When the driver stopped at Stop 2 Jamison Shops, the doors wouldn't close & when they did the bus wouldn't move. After contact with radio room, workshop was called & the passengers were ferried onto the Supervisor Van.
Apparently the fault could of been that the bus computer wasn't registering with the doors.
Please report accurately. From your description it is not a brake system failure, seems to be a door cuircuit failure. If you are going to mention brake failures, ensure your information is 100% accurate and that the brakes have actually had issues, rather than dramatising things as you have done here.
Everyone in the bus heard* that the radio room told the driver not to risk it with the brakes & to terminate the run. A chat with the driver we got to the door circuit failure.
I was up on the back seats & the driver said to everyone "did you hear that?" then we all got up
I have no idea what was going on, but at the Callam Street Skyplaza stop, bus 932 was up on the footpath & Bus 100 was being attended to by workshop & some sort of sticks appearing to hold the rear up, but no real idea as I only got a quick glimpse. A traffic control ute was also there & the whole stop was witches hatted off.
There was a Scania broken down on Yarra Glen southbound yesterday arvo. 368 stopped behind it to pick up the passengers.
135 stopped in the turning lane from Coulter Drive into Nettlefold st this morning in the middle of peak hour. Luckily it was been followed by the breakdown van already, it was in the workshop layover when I went back that way about 10 minutes later.

375 had a computer malfunction with Ed behind the wheel which deactivated the short stop and allowed him to drive with the doors open.
That would of been the same thing that I saw with Bus 384 a few weeks back.
What would it have to do with short stop, wouldn't it just be a problem with the interlock, I'm not sure if actions are the same but punchbowl/Shorelink etc have a switch in the panel above the doors, comes in handy for turning it off :)

Which you will find is ILLEGAL and a sackable offence, not to mention gaol time if you have an accident and hurt someone. Is not having the interlock on really worth your livelyhood?? MOT will have no hesitation in cancelling your authority for a lengthy period for such negligent behaviour.

Its not worth your job to tamper with the buses safety system no matter how easy it may be. At the end of the day, should an incident occur that would result in bad publicity for the company, they will look for any excuse to hang you out to dry. We all agree that front door interlocks are a pain in the ass and not required, however some nuff in an office who doesn't know what a bus looks like has decided its the best thing for safety (not sure who's safety tho)

There was a PR100.2 Mk1 being assisted along the Parkway (towards Belconnen) by a maintenance truck yesterday about 6.15pm. Didn't catch a bus number as I was going in the opposite but it had route 17 on its desto.
I spotted a mk2 on tow down Isabella Dr this morning, probably around 8.45am. Was too far away to see what it was.
395 is out of the workshops after a 2 week stay, it has now been replaced by 394, before it 390 was there for a week. I think I may have reported it but 403 was involved in an accident on Friday.

403 was sighted in B depot minus its rear window.
Bus 339 died on the ramp City East bound ramp from Commonwealth Avenue to London Circuit. It has just about blocked by the whole lane. The mechanic was working on the fuses. The bus was still there when I went past over an hour later, with Police assisting the City Supervisors on traffic duties.
A Tuggy bus failed @ Cohen St around mid-afternoon; driver was issued with a Belco bus replacement.
Don't know numbers of either but I saw 329 being towed into Tuggy Depot at around 2000h, so I suspect that was the dead bus from Cohen St....
If 329 was the one I saw (and I think it was), it broke down at 1800, doing the last 907 to Fraser.

As for the IRIS, it looks just like 310 did when it died on me a while back. Its not the first or the last time that it died.
I have seen 310 at least 10 times on the side of the road in that condition, not to mention most of the others.

There would be spares available. Changing a turbo is a fairly straight forward procedure and could be completed by a competent mechanic in a couple of hours.

How are the turbo's cooled? (water? air?)
Vast majority of turbos are air and oil cooled. There are some exceptions that are water cooled, but these are in the minority due to the extreme tempratures involved. Oil is a better conductor of heat so has better cooling effecience. The oil is mainly there for lubrication however, with turbo's spinning up wards of 30000rpm in some cases. Key to cooling a turbo is keeping the exhaust temp as low as possible and ensuring the turbo used produces the lowest amount of boost required at max load. This stops unnecassary compressing of air (producing huge amounts of heat) that just flows out the wastegate.

In case it isn't quite clear, the first air-con panel is only being held on by the top & 1 screw at the bottom.

Bus 382 (i think) had to be rebooted at civic today... after that it look like it drove off ok.
Rebooted as in turned off then started up again? Usually it's the kneel mechanism that requires that. I had to do that in an full Irisbus half-way up Northbourne Ave one Saturday afternoon. Took the passengers by surprise when their packed bus suddenly had its engine stop.
I'm not sure sorry, I wasn't on the bus. I just noticed the back number thing went off and the engine was off after it looked like it wasn't moving forwards.
A PR100.3 appeared to break down in the City last night, it was on a 312 & even though Platform 5 was empty it pulled up at Platform 4 with hazards on.

Just took a quick restart to get us back on the way though.

Perhaps the same PR100.3 that was broken down with service truck in attendance on London cct in between the north and south bound lanes of Northbourn Ave (facing towards the courts). Although I can't actually remember which night I saw it this week..
'MyWay' reports that his bus tonight (137) has broken down at Kippax with a suspected fuel line issue, the tow truck has been called.
Considering the low priority that seems to be given to repairing Darts, 137 is likely to be the next ticket machine donor.
This may be one for another thread, but if it has gotten to the stage where ticket machines for the new buses are being taken out of the old, could we assume that there will be no buses withdrawn until MyWay is in place?
Surely if they were going to retire some of the Mk1 Renaults, they'd take those ticket machines rather than those of the Darts.. Unless they plan on getting rid of those?
Well the darts carry less passengers, so therefore less revenue is lost. And the Darts are generally a last resort to drivers anyway (Except for an odd few who enjoy them ;)), so best to take them out of a bus that will be last used and will ensure that not as much revenue would be lost (Compared to if you had taken the machine out of an Artic or Rigid).
Yes, I can see why they're taking the machines out of the Darts as they have the lowest passenger capacity, I'm making the observation that they are obviously not intending to retire any buses anytime soon, otherwise we'd see Renaults parked at Woden with their ticket machines transferred to the new MANs and Scanias.
It doesn't mean they don't intend to retire buses soon though. Just because we have not seen them head over there now, does not mean we will not see some old Renaults move to Woden in the next few days, weeks or months. Better to take the machines out of the Darts for the MAN's, as when some Renaults are retired they are still going to be short of machines anyway.
Sadly, neither the Darts nor the Irisbuses are destined for early retirement since they count towards the wheelchair accessible fleet. And considering the 75* buses were among the first ones at B depot to get fitted out for MyWay (TM), they might not be going anywhere soon either.

I believe the retirement age for ACTION buses is 20 years, meaning the Mk1s from 700-860 odd are all past their use by dates, with the rest due in the next few years. The fleet would look a lot different if they kept the 12 years retirement age...

Also not quite sure what as going on, but on the slip lane from Callam Street onto Hindmarsh Drive (eastbound), Bus 934 was half up on the island & other cars were turning left from the bus lane onto Hindmarsh Drive. 880-915 are orignal B buses and hence their real home is B depot. 870-879 are B wannabes.
On a side note, original B .2s are
880-915, 926-934, 946-955, 961-969, 980-981
941 spent some time at B when in AIS livery when it was almost new (apparently due to complaints that the AIS never saw the bus, back then certain depots exclusively did certain runs with B doing the 431 thru AIS). These are the only 100.2s that B had as their original allocation (B never had a mk1 that wasn't a handmedown)
Am open to correction on the list but i'm pretty sure it is right.

the windscreen wiper fell off 991 whilst operating a 905, after a brief stop at an undisclosed location repairs were made by the driver and the route continued arriving at Cameron Ave 4 minutes ahead of time
Bus 360 broke down on Adelaide Avenue last night on a southbound 319 just near the Carruthers Street overpass. I don't know if it was to let the passengers off, but the front half of the bus was touching the ground.
Tuggeranong Depot must be short on buses as Bus 355 left the depot for a shift with the rear bumper & a part of the left side missing.
Maybe the driver didn't notice.

Reminds me of one day in high school, my arvo school bus showed up with two sections of a new ad on the right having been applied sometime that day, but the last piece was missing.
Next day the missing piece was on there. Thinking the ad person had maybe stepped away for the minute and my driver hadn't noticed what was going on and just took his bus

Fair enough. In which case that means Tuggy depot had a spare driver who could take the bus to Belco rather than tie up a mechanic who (normally) have more important things to do than drive a bus across town.
345 is in for repairs at Belco. Has had repairs done but needs to be repainted, replacement of panels was right down the LHS side of the bus, it currently has an STA Blue corner.
Bus 864 became stuck on the Belconnen Depot exit road. The driver spent 5+ minutes revving the engine with the bus occasionally lurching forward. Once all doors were opened twice, the bus got going. But the smoke smell could be smelt from Platform 2.

I suspect the system that doesn't let the bus drive with the back doors open wasn't registering the back doors were closed.

962 wasn't far out of cohen st heading towards coulter - stopped on the side of the road with its hazard lights on, with the driver trying to get the back doors to shut.

Fair enough... well when I walked past it was that noise they make when the doors aren't closed.. it looked like he was going down to manual open/close the door, but the bell didnt stop?
I guess he was close enough to the depot to run over and select another bus at least.
I spotted 962 out in service tonight, so it must have been a quick fix.
Buses 334, 345 & 347 are at the back of Belconnnen Depot (with Buses 755 & 756).
One other Scania has had a few panels removed & is sitting at Tuggeranong Depot.

By the looks of it, the rear door on Bus 347 has been bent in down the bottom. Does anyone else agree with that?
I dare say a car ran into it around the rear door area, not sure why 334 is there but 345 had panel damage on the LHS of the bus

Wheel covers tend to go missing every now and then, and get replaced relatively quickly.
So I'm unable to give a definite answer to your question.
Saw 303 yesterday at northbound Athllon Drive Southlands stop at around 1440 - with Belco Depot breakdown crew apparently applying first aid and preparing to tow the disgraced vehicle back to The Dark Side.

Bus 378 was parked on Northbourne Avenue (Daramalan stop) with hazard lights on & a whole lot of passengers waiting at the back of the bus. It may of been a coincidence, but a camper van parked a few meters down the road. Didn't spot any damage to Bus 378
First 300s is BUS 866 this morning, i wonder if that has anything to do with half the iris fleet been in the workshops...
Nope, for the past 4-6 weeks the first 300 South has been a Renault PR100.2.
That 300 service is nearly always a Renault standard bus and has been the case for a long time; only exception I can recall was when the diesel MANs were new to Belconnen Depot and "The Hat" drove 390 on that service for a few days.
Bus 380 was followed back to Tuggeranong Depot by the Workshop van tonight. Bus 380 was crawling along at 40-50k's an hour with hazards flashing & sounded like it was reeving very high.

I drove 991 yesterday AM, so wasn't anything major.
There is an Irisbus (314?) at Belco workshops getting what appears to be some rear-end damage fixed. It's probably going to get a new bumper & engine cover.
And hopefully a rear end full of LEDs like its sister 313. They actually look really good! I'd almost go as far to say they look better than the Hella ones.
Would have been an interesting night for the tow truck driver last night. According to 'MyWay' both 390 and 406 had to be towed from Tuggeranong with computer glitches last night
390 may not have been computer-related. Reports were that the transmission would not engage - could be just a simple switch failure.
Bus 847 was on Athllon Drive near Southlands with the hazards on & the engine flap up.

Bus 384 suffered a tiny scratch as it "attempted" to enter the already packed City West Layover & scrapped the metal fence. Only minor to the other scraps already on Bus 384.
973 had a minor accident in the City the other day, wouldn't be surprised if there was no damage at all.
395 has a nice big scratch in it, that will be going in for a respray, 390 is yet to re-enter service after it was towed a few weeks back, 351 was towed to Tuggeranong on Wednesday for assessment on the gas system.... that is about all I can think of.

127 was near albert hall? around 1145 today - back was open and an action van was behind it.
There was a .3 (I think) that look like it slid off adelaide ave around 4pm yesterday ?? heading north.
Buses 312 & 725 were parked on the side of the Tuggeranong Parkway (near the zoo) yesterday afternoon. As I went past Bus 312 was pulling out.

This might be old news, but 314 is back in service with a new engine cover (from the rear it looks the same as 301). Its old lights were put back on.

After its bingle on Friday, Bus 420 is back in service & you would never know it was hit.
I think I prefer the way they've done the livery on the re-done Iris rears.
On a related note, how the hell does that livery match up on the left hand side? Look at the orange stripe above the window, which then starts again to the right of the window - how the hell do those two points match up? Are they meant to? Because the stripe would pretty much have to drop straight down to match up properly..

Now those lines look like they match up. Having a look at my photos of the steer tag launch (http://actbus.net/forum/index.php?topic=2328.msg20790#msg20790), the lines of Bus 464 appear to have the same issue as with Bis 314.
Also, Bus 300 broke down on Commonwealth Avenue right at the Commonwealth Park exit road.
Bus 832 has a new desto box, it is shorter then the older ones.

I think you will find that is 361. The fact that they sent that out is woeful, it looks so dodge, but it does say one thing, Tuggeranong are really short on buses....
Alot of companies will send out buses in such a manner until they have time to repaint the panel.

Yes. Apparently mechanics are now refusing to work on 490, don't expect to see it back for a while now.
117 (I'm pretty sure) had that horrible fan belt sound yesterday arvo when it was going up barry drive.
Speaking of 117 i just had on my way to work and its sounding like it needs a new fan belt, i have it every third or forth morning each week on my way to work

Not 490 - it was built in 2009.
993 was stopped with its hazard lights on at calvery hearing towards civic with a heap of people outside who I guess just got bumped off the buss. This was about 430-440ish.
The breakdown van attended to Bus 421 at City West this afternoon.
Bus 791 has been literally taped up. With silver tape covering up parts of the bus, surely ACTION can't be that desperate to keep Bus 791 on the road.
Bus 933 was on the side of the road at LSBS with hazards in.
Bus 423 had a seat back fall off.
Bus 867 is at the back of Belconnen Workshop with heavy front end damage. I keep on thinking it is another bus number so am happy for confirmation.

404 was missing the red stop button thing from near the back of the bus... and two of the back seats sounded like they were about to rattle off.... and the screen was stuck half way through changing screens. (yesterday)

Dead Dart on Athllon: Saw 140 sitting on Athllon Drive @ 1105 this morning, blinkers blinking, engine bay open, passengers contemplating the meaning of life in the Spring sunshine and the bus going nowhere.
390 was in at Tuggeranong Depot this morning in preparation for some VIP event requiring it to be refulled, washed and detailed at Tuggeranong; one of the Steer Tags was receiving similar treatment.
390 appeared to be back in revenue service this afternoon.
304 was on the back of the tow truck. Have also heard that 927, 305 and 410 have all had their issues the past day or 2. Also 419 had an incident this morning.

Saw that yesterday as well, however some drivers wait like that until it is their time to go to the Platform as there is not really any bus parking in the City Interchange of an afternoon & it holds other buses up on Platform 8 if you are too early. Sometimes the line of buses waiting for/using Platform 8 can go across the road. This could be why some Gungahlin services won't extend to the City in peak times next Network.

Bus 404 has broken down at the southbound Floriade stop. It looks like the driver has kneeled the bus down & now the bus doesn't want to go back up.
EDIT: Bus 404 was spotted on a northbound run 90 minutes later.

426 is easy to spot at the moment: it's missing a front clearance light.

Bus 141 died on Alinga Street today in between the north & south bound lanes of Northbourne Avenue. It was being attended to by the mechanics, but they returned to Belconnen Workshop & left 141 were it was.

Bus 125 broke down at Cameron Avenue Bus Station this afternoon.
Bus 999 has had a slight livery change so that the blue line around the bottom of the bus goes right around the back. That red & yellow hash thing has also gone.
Yes, that bus is the reason why 867 has a fresh front.

Police and ACTION team worked well together to keep traffic moving around this busy intersection without undue delays.
Just after you went through they blocked the road for a while, the tow truck couldn't quite make the corner.....
420 looks ready to re-enter service. It has been off the road for the past 6 weeks

369 is currently at the back of Belconnen depot looking quite sorry for itself. There is no air in the front airbags at all, somehow I don't think it will be operating my 314 at all in the final week of the network.

Bus 989 broke down on Southern Cross Drive.
Bus 465 broke down on Lhotsky Drive right on a stop with a pedestrian island in the middle.
Bus 112 also broke down at Barton Interchange, but was spotted back in service an hour later.

Yep, that's unfortunately the reality for ACTION. A day over 25C can send the network into meltdown (literally, mind you, it'll just be the .3s, Darts and Iris', and sometimes Scanias).

Bus 992 was being attended to at East Belconnen Layover.
Bus 980 shut its self off on Belconnen Way & Coulter Drive lights today. The driver just started it up again & races off by the next green light
312 overheated on Eastern Valley Way today.
898 was stopped under the GDE Bridge on Grinningdara dr with it's engine door up. Another bus was behind it but no sign of passengers?

The story of 112 is that it has been damaged at the rear. It was involved in a traffic accident with a large vehicle.
Around 1230, drove past southbound 145 which had failed on corner of Melrose Drive and Corinna St, Phillip....awaiting breakdown team.
Around 1600, drove past northbound 467, which had breakdown crew in attendance on Athllon Drive, Greenway.

398 sustained a flat rhs outer tyre at Fraser this morning . The 314 it was due to operate was dropped and it went t Belconnen workshops for a tyre change.
967 was involved in an accident and has sustained quite a bit of damage on the right hand side at the front of the bus, so I assume it will be off the road for a period of time. The bike rack has also been removed. I saw it on friday sitting near the shed at Belconen depot.
431 was towed home yesterday with a "Low Oil Pressure" warning.
Bus 372 was sick on Alinga Street near the Marcus Clarke Intersection this evening. The City Supervisors were in attendance when I went past.

310 was seen on Barry Drive yesterday with a pool of coolant around 1pm, it was later sighted "tailgating" the ACTION towtruck, by now a familiar position for it.
A tradesman van & ACTION Bus 903 had a short disagreement this morning. The bus won with what appears to be minimal front end damage (new pair of front doors) & the van looks to be a write off.
Two buses have recently emerged from the workshops: 424 and 405. But the R side rear panel on 405 has come loose, so it might have to go back again. (424 now has only the MyWay equipment which confuses some passengers.)
Bus 318 couldn't handle the heat this afternoon & stopped on Athllon Drive near the (southern) Beasley Street intersection. The Supervisor Van sat behind it using its lovely new led message screen, all the message said was "Lane Closed".
An Iris...overheating...I would never have imagined such a thing...seriously I wish ACTION would dispose of them, although they seem to be overheating a lot less than previous years this summer.

143 had a pretty ,major accident the other day, it was hit by a car around the radiator and fuel tank and apparently it has displaced everything in that area, I wouldn't be expecting to see it back on the road until at least June.
This afternoon, Bus 384 required a tow back to Tuggeranong Depot from Kambah Village. I am unsure what was wrong, but during the preparation for the tow the water was emptied from the climate control system.

Climate control system only contains engine coolant. It was most probably a blocked drain for the condensation for the evaporator.
Did you get any other shots, Bus 400? Will add that one to the Gallery but if you have any other angles etc that'd be great.

I thought I'd stay as far away as possible while they were working.
The annoying thing was, the bus & tow truck were still parked while I was getting served at Woolworths. However, by the time I was walking to my car I lost them.
when busses break down do they have to be towed back to the home depot?
And the next bus to get a ride on the tow truck will be 312 which has had an electronic throttle failure out the front of my house. It was towed with the same failure on Friday.

I find it scary that you know this. Looks like 312 will be the next Irisbus to have a long-term stay in the workshops. If not, it will be the bus to AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I had another driver tell me about the problems on Friday and I could here the driver on the radio as I walked past calling or the mechanics saying the throttle had cut out.
Bus 854 died on London Circuit while on a 313S. It required a tow back, this would of been the reason if a diversion for the Blue Rapid was said over the radio (I would be curious what this diversion was as one Blue Rapid went down Edinburgh Avenue).
368 was sitting on the side of the parkway, southbound this morning (710am) with the back up.
No surprise to anyone I am sure, 315 is currently getting unloaded from the tow truck at Belconnen depot.

941 I can guarantee, has a broken pole inside, as the people on my bus we're moving it and playing around with it.
980 is having some form of issue about 20m up the road from my house, whether it be mechanical or people problems I don't know (it was doing a school run) the engine is now turned off.
Edit: 926 just arrived and is loading pax, drivers have swapped, I am hoping for a tow job as lighting is perfect where the bus is for pictures.
Further Edit: Its rooted, the driver that drove 926 here just stated it and let the handbrake off, it sounded like it was in gear but all it did was rev.
Edit 3: Mechanic now on site, revving bus, assume trying to build lost air, side of road coned off to my driveway.
Edit 4: Drove away very slowly with the cab door alarm blaring

Possibly they could b out of the standard ones, if they had brains they would fit LEDs, it may be more expensive to start but it will be a lot cheaper in the long run!

Most likely the old lights are no longer being made (or are too expensive to import) and this is the closest equivalent available.

Funny thing was Bus 330 was being hooked up to the toe truck from the rear wheels as I went past. They could of been to move Bus 330 further back up the platform, so as to not block that entrance into Woden Bus Station for like 30 minutes. Or Bus 330 was going to be towed from the rear wheels, which would of also meant closing that side of Woden Bus Station while the bus was brought out.
Does anyone have an official answer to what is done in these circumstances?

Yes, very much a case of some quick first aid in order to get the bus back into unrestricted service (from what I can glean, 723 was released for at least one school run 'on concession'). Tuggy can still be short on artics on some days during school terms.

Saw 311 parked at Customs thismorning...typical Irisbus!
Had to put 877 on bricks tonight as the Desto was frozen; made do with a temporary A4 sized paper sign with 28 in big font, but most punters didn't notice it and had to be coaxed into the bus. Desto was frozen with the words "NOT IN", leaving passengers scratching their heads!
Usually if you shut the bus down (and remove key) desto will start working when you start up again.

Yeah, I tried that a few times but didn't work; likewise Quick Fix had no luck with that approach. Then they started fiddling in fuse box but still no progress; by that stage I was getting l;ate for my run so told them I'd make do with a paper sign.
Quick Fix provided the paper, texta and sticky tape!!

The action around this broken bus was quite interesting (no pun intended). The bus was sitting right at the back of Platform 3 at the City Bus Station, with the breakdown truck parked comfortably behind it & the tow truck in front. But the poor supervisor had that side of East Row closed off & was standing out in the cold as a traffic controller letting buses use the other side of the road (when it was clear of course). This leads me to believe (unless OH&S has become very strict) the bus had an electrical issue.
Bus 945 broke down on Adelaide Avenue (southbound-behind Juniour Girls Grammar) this afternoon. The breakdown van was in attendance.
The tow truck was dispatched tonight, I am sure any non-driver enthusiast could guess first go what bus it was...any takers?

A supervisor van and a replacement for a breakdown on two consecutive services on my route during the morning peak today.
Apparently driver illness and a bus shortage (!) are to blame. If only we had a depot full of recently retired buses that are perfectly fit for service.

What a quiet month August was....
That was until today, Bus 329 had to be sent back to Tuggeranong Depot (from Cohen Street Bus Station) with an air issue (it was a bit funny watching the driver trying to press the door close button while trying to force the front doors closed with his feet). Eventually (with the help of another driver), the bus got away.
Then just down the road (Belconnen Way/Barry Drive/Macarthur Avenue lights) Bus 352 became too scared to cross into the City Area. The real issue with this bus is unknown to this Special Correspondent.
338 was declared a brake down at Gungahlin Marketplace after I reported the strong smell of gas at the back of the bus. The driver also requested a bus swap yesterday (reason unknown) with the bus still reeking of gas at the rear.

Will depend on whether there is any chassis damage. If they want to repair it, parts could easily be sourced from 786. Windscreen will need replacing too.
Meanwhile, 138 has returned again - this time after mechanical repairs (most likely a new diff).

The rear suspension on Bus 874 is stuffed. One would assume that the springs must have snapped as the suspension was at the bottom of its travel for the entire journey. What a back breaking ride home today ::)

We haven't had buses with mechanical springs in them in Canberra for around 20 or so years. It would be the airbags are too low, normally caused by a damaged levelling valve or damage/misadjustment of the arm that controls the valve.
I was on S-bound Red Rapid (377) and just arriving Civic at 5:17pm, the bus crushed into the door of a taxi. Glass on the left side cracked and spilled all over the "NO STANDING AREA".
The bus canceled its service at City, no idea where it has gone to.
The question was posted on Twitter about the fate of Bus 923, well this afternoon I spotted it on the Tuggeranong bricks. It looks to of had a fresh coat of paint & the logo even looks new, below are the pictures I took for eveyone else to compare.

Looking at the orange section, it looks like it might have one of the orange vinyl stickers on it, starting under where the 'vacate this seat for disabled...' sticker is.
It also appears to have a nice new shiny bike rack, with ACT Bus wiki reporting the original one being fitted back in March 2010.
Dress rims are still missing; certainly does look like a new bike rack compared to the faded one parked beside it.

Also it looks like Bus 400 has a shiny new inter cooler, this must of what was giving Bus 400 that terrible noise last time I saw her. If that is true, Bus 490 may get the same treatment.
I'd say 351 will be in service very soon.
If an intercooler needs replacing there will be a hissing noise (quite a loud one) and it won't have much turbo pressure. Last time I was on 400 it had some form of leak in the intercooler however it was not affecting the performance, this may have worsened. 432 has had an intercooler replaced recently.
Bus 400 did have a bit of hissing as it was accelerating up Cohen Street & then as it entered Belconnen Depot last time I heard it.
Bus 490 just sounds sick though.

I watched 882 slowly go over the raised pedestrian crossing on Cowper St, Dickson earlier and the front desto was swinging back and forth like nobody's business. Haven't seen that before.
I was on a Mk II last Friday, can't remember which one now, and one of the front doors was opening with such ferocity that it would slam into the open position before bouncing half way back to closed then to open again. I'm honestly surprised the glass didn't smash on one occasion it was so strong! The driver very safely cautioned people waiting to alight to step back before that door had settled down at each stop.
Bus 904 was sent to the workshop yesterday morning with a broken front left wheel cover. It resurfaced this morning with a new one (expect it back in with another wheel cover hanging on). While in yesterday, it became (what I believe) the first Renault to receive said radio. It is located when the old radio was (on top of dash). This makes it unsafe to talk on the two-way while driving.

I can only speculate, but as I drove past everything looked ok in the engine bay & the only recorded ACT Fire Brigade call out in that area was a car fire near the Tradies an hour earlier.

708 failed @ Mawson Shops southbound on Athllon Drive this evening; Workshop Truck was in attendance at around 1900.
Tuggeranong artics see very little use in school holidays; most, if not all southside Xpressos are now worked by standard buses (including some green buses), but one or two northside Xpressos are worked by Tuggeranong artics throughout the year.
443 was being towed southwards down Drakeford Drive at around 1210 this afternoon.

One was 470 and the other was a Mk1 (I think that was 815, thx to ACTbusspotter to mention it). The former died near the Northbound Blue Rapid stop just next to Woden Depo, and the latter was dying at the intersection of Athllon and Drakeford Drives.
First time to see the towies for me! :o

Bus 324 was returned to Tuggeranong Depot very early this morning (I spotted it on the Tuggeranong Parkway near the Zoo at 06:34).
490 was sighted at Bridgestone in Fyshwick this afternoon, presumably for a wheel alignment. Was sighted about an hour later on Athlon Drive driven by mechanics and back in service a short time later.
2 ACTION Buses had to be attended by the Fire Brigade yesterday. The incident at Gungahlin I am 100% sure was Bus 304.
But does anyone know about the incident at Woden Bus Station between 09:00 & 12:00? The pinpoint on the ESA Incident Map is on the other side of the road to Platform 8/Drivers lounge.

Saw the accident scene soon after the event (B4 ambo & emergency services arrived); Mark 1 Renault doing a northbound 161. Sideswiped by car trying to enter Transit Lane was one explanation I've heard (but not verified). Bus was parked on central reservation....

You've heard of drop bears, well now there are drop buses. These mystery objects just come out of no where when no one is watching. Drop buses have an advantage over drop bears as they have more power & can just disappear like that.
Bus 466 got fixed at UC southbound bus stop, meanwhile Bus 302 also broke down at Westfield bus stop Platform 1.
I noticed that BUS 394 was "parked" next to Platform 6 at City Interchange back on 31st of December 2011, not to sure what the issue was.

Why was a bus blocking the left lane of Northbourne? Didn't get a good look but pretty sure it was a Gas Scania.

843 failed this afternoon at Calwell Centre - crook alternator.
and that will bring a close to 843s life I would say... don't be surprised if 841 makes a return in it's place.

843 was back in service this afternoon; when I saw it, it was running over 10 minutes late on a Route 11 & that was B4 leaving the interchange!), so I suspect mechanical issues may have arisen again.

351 failed at Cohenst operating a route 313, the run was covered by 116, 351 departed a matter of minutes later, presumubly to the T depot. 304 was also back on the road today after it's incident a few weeks back.
There were some issues with 907 on a 630.
374 died at the intersection of Cooyong st and Northbourne Ave blocking the right hand turning lane for approximently three hours before it was towed away.
Ed reports 351 is getting picked up by the tow truck. No location mentioned.
Saw 429 a few minutes ago turning from Lathlain onto Coehn st, there appeared to be something seriously wrong in the front end suspension as it bottomed out quite harshly, went over the same part of the road a few seconds later and it was dead flat. Would have hated to be in the front end... it looked painful.
374 back on road today. Ooh, quick job, Tuggeranong mechanics.
Another thing missed on Twitter, it was back on Saturday.
131 had some problems in Woden Interchange.
A CNG Scania died in the middle northbound lane on Drakeford Drive this morning at the Sulwood Drive lights. I'm unsure what happened, but when I rocked up at 06:30 the mechanic & supervisor van were parked with flashing lights. With the mechanic running from where he parked the bus on Sulwood Drive back to the truck & both vechiels were moved off. The bus driver was in the Supervisor's can at the time.
This breakdown would of affected an early morning Gungahlin service.
A CNG Scania was returned to Tuggeranong Depot early yesterday morning. Although I spotted it as we crossed near Hindmarsh Drive, the fleet numbers looked like 362.

That was 702, was doing a 314.
Bus 363 had a battery failure (probably) at Westfield Interchange.
Probably an alternator failure if the battery is not getting charged. 363 is spending the night at B depot.
Bus 458 returned to Belconnen Depot with a smashed window.
While Bus 984 couldn't handle "it" in the median strip lane of National Circuit at the Brisbane Avenue lights. Then Bus 468's destination equipment decided not to work.

Friday evening sightings;
Bus 327 died at Chisholm Shops while doing a northbound 67 then got towed away at 7:30pm, meanwhile 981 (or 982) was doing another 67 to Woden then broke down in Deamer Cres.
Toyota Hiace 214-671 and 672 have got the same livery as 214-712 wears.
406 had some kind of trouble on Constitution Avenue near AusAid. Got fixed up and left there at 2pm.
A MAN 18.310 CNG was returned to Tuggeranong Depot early this morning. So early I could only just make out the shape of the bus.
Bus 715 died just short of City Bus Station this morning.
Bus 311 had a bladder control problem this afternoon & ended up pulling up on Flemington Road with water & steam pouring out.
989 was pulled up on the side of Morshead Drive this afternoon with the breakdown van at its side.
986 got a car into the side this morning on Tom Roberts Ave, Conder this morning around 0800.
Several fire trucks, police cars and an ambulance. From quick glance from Bus 716, not much damage done to the bus.

That could of been the "Transport Fire" that the ACT ESA Incidents page showed last week on Yamba Drive, Farrer near Long Gully Road.
Otherwise the only other was a Dart vs Scania CNG at Woden last Wednesday.
152 was at the back of B depot workshops late last week: perhaps that was why. (Not there now.)

Yes, it must be the Farrer incident; the Woden Interchange Dart/Scania incident was quite separate, and from memory, occurred last Thursday, not Wednesday. That involved BUS 149.

Bus 116 became ill while heading south on Northbourne Avenue this afternoon.
Bus 305 & Bus 314 both became ill in the Belconnen Region yesterday. Bus 314 looked to go to the toilet when the bus was pulled over, but then again.........
986 back in service. The rear right panel is white just like 723 does.
Bus 982 was broken down on Antil Street (Dickson) yesterday evening with the mobile mechanic on site.
In the minds of selected Antil Street residents, it was a ploy by the bus driver to piss them off.

A CNG Scania was returned to Tuggeranong Depot early on Thursday morning.
304 returned to Belconnen depot on Thursday night on the back of the tow truck after braking down at parliament house.
It was also reported that 307 left Belconnen depot on the back of a flat bed truck approx a week a go.
Bus 101 caught alight while on Lawrence Wackett Crescent, Theodore while on a 11 to Woden. The Fire Brigade was called at 15:57.
Also in other news, a car rear ended a bus on Alfred Hill Drive, Melba at around 09:30.

According to the ESA Incidents page, there was another "Transport Fire" (truck/bus) at the intersection of Athllon Drive & Beasley Street (south) in Mawson. The 000 call was made at 15:04. Does anyone know more?

Bus 485 was attended to by the Fire Brigade on Northbourne Avenue this morning. Another truck/bus fire occurred an hour later on Belconnen Way at the Kingsford Smith Drive roundabout.
Early reports of Bus 485 was that it had blocked the left lane, but by the time I went through it was parked at the rear of the bus stop.
Later truck/bus fire was a garbage truck.
104.7 Traffic Reports, reported a car (with a trailer) had rear ended a bus on Canberra Ave near Dalby St in Fyshwick.

There were three shuttles doing Tugg-Woden-City-Bruce, operated by 721, 518 and 712. I believe 718 was sent out to replace 712.
A Renault Artic (almost certainly 721) broke down at Bruce Stadium. They didn't have any other choice than to get everyone off 721 and pack them into 718.
Didn't have a good look at what Belconnen sent out but I did see 506, a steer tag and an MAN.

I figured they just took whatever was parked up front.
They tend to segregate the Scanias from the Renaults if possible.
Bus 443 was involved in a collision this morning involving a Honda sedan. The collision occurred at the intersection of Alinga Street & West Row just before 9am.
WIN News reports that a women & her 9 month old were flung forward during the collision & were taken to hospital. The footage shows a dent in the Honda & the front right corner of 443 was ripped off during the removal of bus. It is also mentioned that the Honda driver is likely to face charges.
A photo has been tweeted of Bus 404, with what looks like belts hanging out.
I saw it on Thursday arvo in the City, being attended to by the mechanics.

Nearly one year later, Bus 101 has been repaired and will return to service very soon.
502 has returned to service after a few months off the road. Like many of its sisters, it has had the bus stop system modified to be a wired system. I suspect all of the wireless buses will eventually be converted.

484 died today on Drakeford Dr after Woodcock Dr. It was operating a 318 and it had the breakdown truck there at around 3.30ish
103 had a collision with what appeared to be a tarago which reversed out of a driveway into it's path whilst on a southbound 2, damage was pretty limited to the nearside front, smashed headlight and a dent, the same can't be said for the tarago.
That's fortunate: it's the opposite side to where 130 was damaged. Should have no problem finding parts.
On it's trip to being returned to Tuggeranong Depot this morning, Bus 494 was broken down on the side of the Tuggeranong Parkway (southbound).
Noticed last weekend that 371 had some fairly noticeable rear end collision damage; has been parked on the Tuggeranong bricks close to 517.

Ute vs Bus accident at Cohen St/Westfield Statiom stop sign this morning, closing Platform 2 at Westfield.
The ute had some decent front end damage while the bus (950) appeared to have very minor damage, mainly to the bike rack.
875 seems to have a non-operational desto.
Has been going into service (on concession) just with pieces of A4 paper stuck to the windscreen, displaying the relevant route number (printed off a PC, so it stands out OK in daylight).
950 is back in service after last week's accident.
There was a car vs bus at West Row and Alinga this morning. Possibly a .2 with a BCC ad on the rear. Buses were briefly diverted via University Ave and London Cct. I would've thought Rudd St would have been a more logical choice..

Someone else on Twitter has informed me it was .2, a Mercedes car turned left into Alinga St & failed to give way. Apparently he was cranky, because when you fail to give way & turn in front of someone. Who then hits you, you should get cranky shouldn't you.......
Exactly what happened. B class Mercedes, so he couldn't afford a Mercedes in the first place. Some quality driving. It won't be the last time you see collisions at that intersection as it really is a poor design. Sooner they make Alinga St buses only in peak the better. Wake me up! I'm dreaming again.

There was another collision at that intersection this afternoon.
Some time ago, I speculated on twitter that 153 was being sent to Woden for storage. While this has not been ruled out, it appears to be at Belconnen Depot for some mechanical repairs.
It's also possible that 135 is at Tuggeranong as a replacement, but I've not yet confirmed this.

A number of Tuggeranong green buses are going around with the extremities of the front end "orange smile" cut off due to headlight panel repairs; one has hand painted extremities using non-matching yellow paint.
Just saw 453 with some damage on its engine cover. So that was the likely rear end victim.
Bus 401 is sitting in Tuggeranong Depot missing its rear axle.

It is, what you see is the front axle. Which looks like it is at the rear.
Actually appears that the motor and gearbox have been removed. Maybe it is easier to remove the whole driveline assembly and then lift the body out of the way.
There's a fairly long fluid (oil / diesel ?) trail which follows route 7 from Bruce into Belconnen Depot. Fairly reliable source says it left there by an Irisbus.

Which aren't 18.310s at all, as they don't have the 310hp motor in them!
The specifications note a 310hp engine, but this is far from my area of expertise so happy to be corrected, though they are badged as 18.310s.
They don't deliver 310 HP due to the CNG power, although it may be same engine block.

339 was involved in an accident today. I saw it at plat 8 Woden today and I think it happened there. The driver side mirror was inside the bus and the small window on the driver side and the headlights were smashed up/ missing respectively. I have a pic that I might be able to upload later in the week....
140 (at least I'm fairly sure it was 140...it definitely had the new seats) is broken down this evening at stop 4749, engine flap up and not going anywhere in a hurry :-P
Yes it was 140 - it was towed into B depot just after 2230 last night.
388 has recently lost it's windscreen fleet numbers... could mean it got a new windscreen
I noticed that when I was at tuggers Interchange yesterday afternoon. ..I'd say it does. When 527 loses its fleet nos it means that...527 always seems to need a new windscreen. ..conspicuous
527 doesn't require the windscreen numbers to be legal
404 was expelling a lot of white powdery gas in the City this afternoon...I'm not sure what was wrong with it but it had the breakdown truck in attendance.
521 now has a window where there used to be that frill thingy at the sides of the back white bit.

Both incorrect.
521 has the grill off the drivers side heat vent on the rear corner missing. This has been missing for some time now.
389 was delivered with different LEDs installed. Some other late gas MANs have either different brake or indicators to the norm but 389 is the only one with both brake and indicators of the multi LED style. There are also a couple of tuggy stags that have 1 of the multi LED on the indicator.

I noticed today that 348's fuel gauge suggested that it was running on basically no fuel, with 50mins left on that service. Nervously keeping an eye on the fuel gauge, I noticed that every 30seconds or so, the needle would swing up to around the half way mark before dropping again- Faulty fuel gauge?
also notice that the back window was open, even though the aircon was working. My understanding was that these were kept locked?
Yep. That's sounds like a faulty fuel gauge to me. Better send ACTION an email ASAP.
Unsure how the ACTION Gassies work however some gas vehicles will show empty on fuel gauge however they have a 'bar' display with how many bars? of gas remaining. Usually a red seven segment display showing how much gas is left.
148 broken down at southbound Callum/Hindmarsh intersection this morning. Others on the bus noted how it would set off the bus lights each time, delaying the traffic, as it was on the sensors... I though this was pretty funny :)

An Iris (307?) was broken down on Southern Cross Dr (Belco bound) at Florey early this morning.
Bus 346 was broken down on the side of the Tuggeranong Parkway yesterday morning on its way to City or Gungahlin/Dickson.
398 is broken down on Northbourne Ave, northward, at Mouat St. It's causing all sorts of traffic snarls: traffic is banked up all the way to the City. My 39 just took over 30 minutes from McKay St to Antill St; the apps are showing many Northbourne services running up to 40 minutes late.
115 was broken down on Golden Grove.
Bus 374 had its hazard lights on and by the looks of things was stuck on the intersection on Anzac parade and Constitution Avenue. A police vehicle was on scene. Anyone know anything about this?
374 was in service on Tuesday so I'm guessing it was just a breakdown on Anzac Pde. Thought it could have been an accident because I could see a swipe mark on the right if the bus.

Swipes are part of the livery these days.
After the accident a few weeks ago at the City Bus station involving 997 and 390, will 997 be repaired and come back in service or will it be withdrawn? 390 was repaired about 2 weeks ago but I haven't seen 997 out.
997 was in service today, think it has been since 390 came back

941 was towed into Belconnen earlier in the week but has returned to service since. 465 (I think) was towed home this week too. 131 has also been a visitor to the B workshops and may be there for heavy maintenance to the drive-train.
467 having issues at woden this arvo 3:50pm, side rear panel had been opened and they were sweeping out sawdust or something. Had 3 on desto
The sawdust would be to soak up whatever had leaked out onto the road.

Last I saw was the passengers disembarking off 502 and 569 continuing on its way. 569 did not sustain any visible damage, but 502 would be needing some repairs.
557 was broken down on Hindmarsh Drive near Eggleston Crescent today on the grass at 12:00 but was fixed by mid Arvo today

907 has a trial on board douche detector fitted. So as not to distract the driver it only becomes activated once stationary for 30 seconds.

386 had its hazards on at Northbourne just after Condamine and next to it, a big tree looked to have fallen down. All cars had to divert onto the median strip in the middle of Northbourne. Not sure why 386 was stopped there (I couldn't see any damage to the vehicle.)
386 wasn't involved in the tree falling down, (if there was one) the bus may of forgotten or missed the diversion.

Bus 994's (PR3) desto is all screwed up today, caught it twice, and both time instead of saying 54 to Gungahlin, or 40 to belco, it said something like '4pH GULAHHAHAAh' most of the flip boards weren't working.
Also, 3 buses broke down at the Westfield Interchange, 2 PR2's, and a Euro 5 surprisingly. can't remember the numbers, as I was focusing on my Bus Hopping©, but one PR2 stalled at the end of bay 2 forcing buses and cars to wait while they moved it out of the way, and then another about 4 hours later on the other side broke down, as the E5 broke down with it too. The service guy came to fix the up real quick which was good. Loose screws I'm guessing ???

Can someone tell me what's been going on with the Scania's? I've been noticing for the past year now they are al being fitted with a new grill at the back, makes them look slightly less appealing, and destroys the logo (if not removed)> is it something to do with them being old and the engines overheating, or a OHS regulation or something???
Would have thought all the hundreds of rectangular shaped openings on the sides and the few on the back were already enough?, guess not ???

It is an OH&S requirement. Drivers are not permitted to open the engine hatch on the buses. However at times they are required to inspect the belts on the engine. To facilitate this grilles are being fitted to the back of the Scanias to allow the belts to be viewed.

I'm not sure why the extra grill has been fitted, but the logo is then re applied - so I'm not sure why you think they look less appealing.

Yep, it docked and picked up passengers for the 10, then it spilt a massive pile of liquid and drove off leaving a small trail. Then it stopped...
As with 580, it was at the back of platform 3, then it went to the front of platform 3 - so it still had some power.
It's not a ship, it doesn't dock....it stops, and it was oil that it dropped, I believe it was towed home. 580 was in service this afternoon, it was probably laying over on the back of platform 3 and the driver forgot to turn the hazards off when he rolled down to pick up pax.
Incident at Tuggeranong Interchange this afternoon between 472 and 571 apparently.
Bus 524's transmission broke down yesterday.

A SNT bus was being tended to yesterday afternoon on the northbound lanes of the Tuggeranong Parkway near Heysen Street.
Northbound? I saw two of them stopped southbound in that approximate location yesterday afternoon, around 5pm
338 now has a similar green front (without the orange smile) to 351. Recently involved in minor accident apparently.

492's Wheelchair Buzzer has been altered to only sound off once now, instead of twice
I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I think I saw what looked like a panel replacement where the refueler part is at the back of 431. The sun was shining on it this morning, so that's why I'm not sure.

Straying off topic here (so may have to split this topic) - the new buttons (and indeed the systems in Bus 491 onwards) are wireless.
There are a number of companies which offer a RF wireless push button system - it looks like Custom are using the products of Finnish company Teknoware. (Refer here (http://www.teknoware.com/en/vehicle-lighting/bus-lighting/bus-interior-lights/wireless-bell-push-system) for their webpage.)
The previous wireless systems (with the round buttons) used a sound-emitting button with a receiver inside the bus - but these were too unreliable.

334 broken down on Sternberg (Wanniassa) this morning at 8:05am, police and transport officers attending
525 didn't look all too happy leaning over on the new plt 19 of woden interchange this afternoon. As I was waiting at plt 18 , it passed me with the front end down against the road, with what I'd guess was a leaning mechanism failure.
And 524 broke down today in a not-so-convenient spot at City Interchange around peak today.
933 passed through Belconnen Community Station northbound attached to Action's recovery truck, with a following van escort, at 1.19pm today (23rd).
933 must have had an easily fixed problem. Seen back in service at Plat 1 Westfield Belconnen yesterday (25th) at 5.20pm operating a route 30 service.

Currently sitting on 950 which has overheated coming out of Narrabundah Lane. Bus 123 came to the rescue of me & 2 others.
On some stop buttons on 622 if you shake ur keys at them the stop light goes ofg

As per the usual, some bus at Woden didn't want to work around 17:30, so the field van had to go out on a 22.
No idea what bus, I just spotted the field van as I was waiting for my Kentucky Fried Wabbit.

Forgot to mention this, but 342 had an issue with its alarm system yesterday, the one where if the drivers door opens without the park brake on, the voice message goes off - well it was going off constantly and yet the door was shut. It was probably caused by driving over a bump shaking something loose.
It kept repeating over and over for a few minutes before the driver decided to pull over for a moment to try and shut it up lol.
The sensors for these are pretty terrible, once it starts going off you can only stop it by applying the park brake, and with the latest version of the system you will also have to open and close the drivers cab door and apply to park brake to shut up the alarm, however the voice message has been replaced with the sounding of the bus horn repeatedly, and of course the system is just as unreliable as before so you will be driving along and the horn will start sounding until you stop, slam the drivers cab door shut again and apply the park brake.
I haven't had the time to post for a while so a summary from the past week.
Last Thursday, 539 was driving around with a full bus with the back door half open, and 938 operation with the frontmost door open. Don't know why but 2 cases in one day was interesting. 427 has new front and nearside panels, logoless and I seem to recall the windscreen was fleet no. less as well.949 has very noticeable new vibrant (not the lights themselves but the coloured plastic) nearside tail lights.And some new myway error I hadn't seen before on 379 "Bad O/S Signature Previous O/S Restored Please Restart"
All I can recall at present
Fairly sure 427 has been logo-less (nearside) for quite a while. Not sure about the missing fleet numbers from the windscreen - Belconnen Depot is usually good at replacing those, but I'll look out for it.

I think it was 307 which appeared to have an issue with its diesel cap as it arrived at the City a little while ago.
That also reminds me of something - which I'll ask on the appropriate topic.
A Scania L94UB had trouble waking up in the wee hours this morning. Had to be woken up on Sulwood Dr, Kambah by the mechanics.

913 today the frontmost door was loose, banging open and shut as we went around corners. This was affecting the opening and shutting of the adjacent door, which after I got on would not shut with the bell going off (he pulled the other door half open while pressing the button to close), but a few stops later it wasn't working at all and the driver was having to get out and manually release, open, let people board/disembark, close and reconnect the door. The frontmost door remained loose.
Could be the next one out from Belco.
Reminds me the time 941 had the same issue a few years back

The ACTION tow truck was on Callam Street rescuing 305 around 11am this morning.
429 was broken down at Woden Bus Station yesterday morning at a similar time
550 traveling South on Northbourne seemed to have been involved in a collision around 10:30am with a car doing a right onto Morphett Street across Northbourne.
550 looked alright as my bus sped past but the bike rack may be kaput
The car hadn't fared as well.
There was another crash (3 cars) on Commonwealth avenue this morning near the Parliament House ramp, causing delays of up to 20 minutes on the northbound 300s and 100s

I was suppose to be meeting a friend who was on that bus, lucky it wasn't more severe.
I was told it was a utility vehicle cutting the bus off - I was misinformed I suppose.
332 broke down on Commonwealth Ave southbound this afternoon. Not sure why, but it broke down in quite an awkward spot, no doubt there were a few back-ups of cars/buses during peak.
401 has had a buzzer sound replacement, with nothing like ACTION has ever used (to my knowledge)
The tow truck was in attendance near platform 8 City bus station around 7:15pm today as seen from cooyong st
Bus 467 chucked a tanty & had to be towed home this afternoon.

While Bus 937 didn't like being woken this morning & needed a stop & stretch on the Tuggeranong Parkway.
Bus 436 was upset at having to share the bus lane on Adelaide Ave & ran up its arse this morning as well. There is a video on Facebook page "On Scene ACT" of the aftermath.

And I'm told another incident today between a bus and car on Adelaide Ave involving hospitalisation of the car driver. The 3rd in 3 weeks
QCity Bus 4542 took a fun, slow trip down Hindmarsh Dr & up the hill up Yamba Dr to return to Queanbeyan Depot yesterday afternoon.
With their breakdown van piloting the bus.

Based on the photo, the bus was 484.
Having seen this bus since, there is no obvious sign of repairs, so
perhaps it wasn't a "collision" as reported, but rather a heavy braking to avoid a collision.
313 had the grumps this afternoon. Seen about 5pm right at the junction of Ginninderra Dr and William Slim Dr stopped on the centre island with engine cover open and TC staff waiting help.
963 sounded really sick yesterday. It was almost as if someone shoved a 500 year old unused out of tune flute plugged into an amplifier in the engine and thought "yeah, that'll do". The noise though, could still hear it several streets away after I got off.

Bus 967 is running well; I saw it today, sounding healthy; it was operating the 5:35pm 775 Xpresso to Gordon. I am surprised that this route is operated by Belconnen Bus Depot; it seems like a logical route for Tuggeranong to run.

Umm, 967 is a proud Tuggeranong bus, and has been since 2014 when she was rescued from that other depot. She is certainly one of the healthiest Renaults in the fleet, if you ask me (I may or may not be quite bias in regards to 967, just saying).

My apologies; I was confusing it with one of the other Renaults in that livery, which I believe is a Belconnen bus. I will investigate to determine if 967 is operating that 775 trip on a regular basis; that route I believe is an express service via the Monaro Highway, it would be an enjoyable journey to travel on 967 along that route.

963 is at Belconnen. 967 and 971 are at Tuggeranong. None of them tend to be on the same shift and trips for multiple days in a row these days, from what I can tell, so chances are 967 won't appear on that 775 all too often, sadly. She is an absolute delight for trips along roads like the Monaro Highway (and every trip anywhere, for that matter).
Another day of PR3 breakdowns cough cough
My afternoon school bus was 2 minutes away but didn't turn up and when I got on a different bus instead they were looking for someone to cover its following run.
And then 5 hours later one broken down on Erindale Dr between Ashley and Sternberg, probably was on a southbound 65.
Can't handle a bit of rain, a bit of heat, or a bit of anything for that matter. The sooner they're gone, the sooner the world will become a better place ;D
While some may need a moment, one of the dinosaur buses (actually do suspect Bus 967) broke looled to of broken down on the Tuggeranong Parkway this evening near Hindmarsh Drive while on a 719.
With a green buses sitting behind it, presumably picking up the passengers. Was a touch hard to see through while driving along in the opposite direction, while also passing by the only part of the Tuggeranong Parkway with bushes in the middle. Also didn't spot a SIMS or Acces Recycling truck near by....

Bus 360 has been admitted to bus hospital for some minor repairs. A few stitches (tape) & she'll be right.
360 was seen back in service yesterday. With a new bike rack and the "all green" front.

There was a MAN gas bus entering Belconnen depot, hauled by a tow truck, at 11:38am today; it seems unusual that it was taken to this depot, which does not normally deal with gas buses.
313 had its hazard lights on (presumably broken down) at 18:10 on Northbourne Avenue.
107 was feeling too ill to proceed too. It was parked receiving treatment on the side of Haydon Dr near Calvary about 5pm.
Must be infectious. 901 was so unwell at Dickson Interchange that about 6pm it was hoisted at front end by heavy recovery truck. If the condition is serious this could see 901 put down. Time will tell.

107's treatment must have been successful. It was laying over near the Gungahlin Bus Station late this afternoon.
935's return to service has not gone altogether well. Apparently broken down around 5 to 6pm, and at a most inconvenient position and time. Nettlefold St, Belconnen, centre lane of 3 lanes (Left; straight on/right; right) near the end of the curve approaching Coulter Dr and a bit over a bus length back from the traffic lights stop line. Repair truck, support van, and TC Officers' mini-bus in attendance all lined up behind in the centre lane.
343 on a route 88 was stopped by a passing lorry in Hume today. "On fire" the truck driver said. As soon as the bus door was opened there was a strong smell. Not actually on fire, but lots of smoke from a sticking kerb side rear brake. Mechanic authorised it to be driven to workshop and a staff mini-bus took over the remainder of the run. There was a radio appeal for a volunteer to take over 343's next run, a rte 182, but apparently not successful as a PA was later arranged cancelling the run.
319 involved in a collision last night.
428 was stopped around 4.30pm at the side of Copland Drive, Melba with service and traffic management personnel in attendance. Facing outbound with no destination details displayed.
355 operating rte 65 felt suddenly unwell and shut down turning out of Namatjira Dr into Conder St. this morning. It announced its feelings via a loud klaxon and stentorian advice about handbrake use needed. Just to be awkward, a private drive was now blocked (but luckily the user who almost immediately wanted to leave was able to escape along the 'nature' strip). A telehealth consultation and consequent efforts at restarting were unsuccessful. The driver rummaged behind the driver's seat and produced 3 safety triangles which she deployed on the road. First aid arrived and we 2 passengers were picked up by a fortuitously arriving rte 64. An interesting change from the normal.
379 was observed front end hoisted on back of heavy recovery truck turning into Cohen St from North around 2.30pm today.

Just got around to checking this old post. It seems condition was terminal as 901 was withdrawn just 5 days later. (Shown in the disposals list as 24/12/18.)
350 was involved in a Accident yesterday on Rimmer St opp ANU Bus Station and cannot say how bad the damage is after hitting a pedestrian but they walked away. Also wasn't someone else hit on Mort St/East Row/ Alinga St yesterday afternoon involving a Belconnen bus?
