So, with all those buses I managed to get that I hadn't already this year (marked with blue), I only have a few left now to worry about to get before the 'ride before decommissioning' goal stats get worse;
-925, 952, 953
-101, 108, 121, 122
-135

And the remaining numbers that i still haven't ridden of the whole current fleet of 2017;
x8 Iris
x17 Scania
374, 378, 381, 384
x24 E5 MAN
x30 E6 Sc
x16 Stag
x11 Artic
x8 M6

Required rides;
x3 on 710
x2 on 712
x1 on 621

Oh yeah. Last week when I got my first ride of 712. My opinion of the bus is; I like it, however it was louder than I thought it would be esp on the outside, and considering it's an electric bus that is kinda a bad thing cause I thought electric meant quiet - it's quiet when it's motionless, but that's about it. It also shudders during acceleration as if it were a manual drive which seems weird, and makes it a little slower than the other buses, but apart from that it's a nice bus. I's also odd sitting behind the rear doors with the double doors when I'm so use to a single door.

I also got lots of photos for both to share and to assist my drawings which I'll share later.

Snorzac

712 isn't an electric bus, 710 is. 712 is diesel electric vehicle which means it runs using a diesel generator to power an electric engine, not unlike a diesel locomotive train.

Barry Drive

#3502
It's not a diesel-electric either. (Not sure if anyone makes them.)

It's a Hybrid diesel. Has both a diesel engine (5 litre 4 cylinder) and an electric motor which both connect to the i-shift 12 speed auto.

More details can be found on the fleetwiki or Wikipedia.

Update: according to Wikipedia there is a Mercedes-Benz Citaro which is a diesel-electric (powered by traction motors).

Got another which is somewhat relieving. Spotted 925 and 952 too, but was unable to ride them at the time.

Thanks to the driver of 621 being early, I got enough time to run up to the parking to get the roof shot I was desiring - had to film it instead of a still photo, but I got what I wanted.

With 712, someone could've said something about TC having this on their site...

Finally got 710...

Also, cause I asked when I got off 710, I met up with the bus back at T when the driver was returning it to the depot and finally got the roof shot I was after (recorded not photographed), of which a rear shot of the bus I might be able to extract to get an image, for use in the gallery.

Well what are the chances - my morning bus on the first day of the new network was...
710 (67) 8m late
979 (6) 10m late, tapped on and off
495 (6) blank desto, either a failure or not yet updated with route 6

I have to say the 966 is scheduled really badly - 2 minutes after a northbound connection at Erindale on the inbound and 5 minutes before a southbound connection from Woden at Erindale for the outbound, although I luckily made it both ways because my bus was early and the bus I was changing to was late (the second case my bus was right behind the 966 - driver flashed lights for me to signal it)
Also amusing that I have a bus through my suburb later on a Saturday than a weekday.

Also have to say that all 966, 964S, and 300S at least seem to be timed very loosely

Quite an impressive list for one day Sylvan. Just curious, do you have any minimum distance standard? Or does as little as from one stop to the next nearby stop count?

Sylvan Loves Buses

If you think that's impressive, you should check back to last year 28th Sep to see my record of 77 in one day ;)

Quote from: triumph on December 20, 2017, 05:13:31 PMJust curious, do you have any minimum distance standard? Or does as little as from one stop to the next nearby stop count?

It depends on how far the next bus stop away is, and how long the bus takes to get there. That's generally how I determine my travels, more so when I travel with my bike, I try to extend where I'm going a little further often just so I don't peeve of the driver cause it takes just a little longer for me to board/exit the bus with the bike.
Bus stops such the double stop on Duggan Street in Calwell would be considered cheating as they're way too close , a friendly driver giving me a lift from Plt 7 of Woden Interchange to Plt 11 to say "hi", or any stop along Summerland Cres (Kambah) cause of the distance between.
To make my 'Bus Hopping' more legit, for any Interchange/Station I go to do it at, I try to make the effort to make the distance that I'm travelling count, so for each Interchange/Station I go to, and depending on the routes I get, I will travel to;

Tuggeranong Interchange:
300s N-bound - Bus stop no.2 - back from no.3
62/705 - Tuggeranong Pool and back
319/19 - try to avoid
The rest - Homeworld or Police Station and back
Woden Interchange:
2/21/25/26/27/60/160/62/162/83/749/791/792/300s - Bus stop no. 2002 (outside tradies) and back
2/160/162/791/792/300s - sometimes around the corner to the Phillip Pool stop and back
6/23/24/66/67 - to Bus stop nos. 2378/2379/2380 crossing over to 2093/2094 to get back (try to get these less often cause of the longer wait periods)
May even get off and get back from the college, but that's pushing it
3/22/80/88 - try to avoid
Anything travelling south on Ahtllon - get off either 2651 or 2687 - cross to get back. Years ago I would go as far as Mawson/Melrose to go back but that was time unnecessarily consuming.
City Interchange:
3/6/7/8/40/300s - literally the first stop after the Northbourne lights, bus stop nos. 3042 (3/6/7) and 4530 and back from either 4529 or 4531. I may even get another bus to the ANU if I see another I want at the lights before crossing back to either of the 4529/4531 stops.
200s/30s/50s Northbourne bound - usually as far as 4554, crossing to 4553 to get back - frequencies of buses will affect my decision
6/200s Constitution bound - try to avoid
81/Tuggeranong Parkway bound routes - try to avoid
All Commonwealth bound routes - get of at Floriade stop (8888) cross to 8887 to get back.
So like yesterday, I was pretty much doing the Floriade and ANU bound routes.
Belconnen Stations:
All routes from Cohen - get of at Community Station
All routes from Community Station - get off at Cohen
I will only get off at the Westfield Station for a rare lunch break or toilet break.
This is how a got 77 in 8 1/2 hours, cause of the number of routes that go through this area and the frequency of it. 5 minutes per bus, averaging around 8 buses an hour, and I report any drivers who fail to stop when I signal for them - happens quite often here.

Am I correct in guessing that at least one of those buses was actually a TARDIS - since that list could not be achieved without time travel either to the 1980-90s or to a few years in the future.

910 (300W), 656 (E), 395 (3W)
that was suppose to be 565 (12E), just a simple typo - I was pretty tired (which is normal after a long day of bus hopping).

triumph

Thank you Sylvan for your detailed reply on what you judge as a minimum ride. I tend to agree, but personally I class Cohen - Community as a 'short ride' as I find I sometimes elect to walk it.

You are quite right about buses at Community (N bound) and Cohen St (S bound) Stations not stopping if they are a terminating service at Cohen and Emu Bank respectively. Most drivers assume the passenger wants to go further and has signalled in error, or have already made up their 'till', or are running late and if S bound intend to double back (as I have seen) at the Community Station. I do think this is reasonable and I wouldn't be reporting it.

I admire your dedicated enthusiasm in riding large numbers in one day. A dozen is a big day for me. Whilst I expect you will reach your 1000 for the year, I feel you have negligible chance of riding, by the end of the year, all the buses you list as yet to catch. The problem, as you would recognise, is that as the number uncaught decreases, so also does the probability that the next bus will be one from that list, so it becomes more and more difficult to catch up with the last few.

Have a great Christmas.

Quite, although I caught another 44 today, 22 of them being ones from the list. So I probably struck luck today at the City, and will notice this inevitability soon.
Thanks, you have a great Christmas too!

As kinda mentioned at the start of my post, I only rode the 43 part of the 343. So it only counts as I've riden on the 43. Much like the Blue Rapids, not the 314 from Woden to City.

710 (925W) - I thought from the other times I had caught this bus the smell was cause of someone cause the other times I have caught it, it was crowded. Now catching this for the first time by my self, I now know the horrific someone-shat-themselves-after-eating-tacos odour is actually the bus' odour, and thinking now, 711 is gonna have that same smell, ugh yuck...

Another 7 ticked off

Only 40 buses remaining to ride for 1000 for 2017
9 buses of the 2017 fleet still remain also - I seriously hope none of these are on the bricks, cause that would just suck. If not this year, then more certainly next year as I'll be trying a little harder.
As of 27th Dec:
305, 316
358
438, 457
544, 552, 620
514
Two of which of those I missed out on cause it seems some drivers are too lazy to even bother open their doors when it comes to straight off arriving and departing when starting a route which is rather inconsiderate I must say, even for the few others I saw trying to get said routes of which I won't mention.

I haven't seen 305 for months (and even then it was last seen on the tow truck!)

As for my recent travels, I'll just say I've had plenty of time with 442 and 528 over the past 24 or so hours...plus a few others inbetween.

Well it is official that I will not be able to ride all the 2017 fleet at least once as of today. 5 still were remaining. Oh well, next year - hopefully get those Renaults before the new buses replace them. Missed out on 316, 514, 358, 438 and 620. 438 of which I actually saw and would've caught as it was doing that 163 you caught KoB had I not been as impatient and got an artic instead.
