Title: Bus seat Refurbishments
Post by: Busfanatic101 on September 18, 2014, 05:03:07 PM

QuoteBus seat refurb enhances comfort, safety and appearance
Released 18/09/2014

Bren Burkevics, Chief Operating Officer, ACTION, today announced that over 50 of ACTION's older bus fleet have received a full passenger seat refurbishment.

"Since the commencement of the refurbishment program in 2012-13, a total of 54 buses have received a complete passenger seat refurbishment which represents an investment of $570,000 by the ACT Government," Mr Burkevics said.

"The refurbishment program includes seat base repairs, new foam padding to make the seat more comfortable and the reupholstering of the seat with new fabric that is modern, durable, fire retardant and helps provide an overall cleaner interior.

"A different coloured fabric is also being used to identify priority seating. This comes after a successful trial was conducted on four buses last year with different fabric used for seats within priority spaces. The trial found that making priority seating more distinctive helped to encourage passengers to give up their seat to the aged, people with a disability or pregnant women.

"These seat upgrades are an important part of improving the customer experience and making public transport a more attractive option for getting around Canberra.

"The passenger seats on all 20 Irisbus Agoraline buses have been refurbished and the program is continuing on older model vehicles including Scanias, Renaults and Dennis Darts which have between 10 and 20 years of service.

"The investment by the ACT Government recognises the fact that ACTION's bus fleet carries over 70,000 passengers per weekday and travels over 24 million kilometres per year which places a high demand on all components of the bus and in particular the passenger seats.

"The refurbishment program will continue in 2014-15 with a further $250,000 allocated to passenger seat upgrades which equates to about 25 buses.

"The seating upgrade is one of many wide ranging improvements the ACT Government is making to public transport.

"Over the last two months the first delivery of ACTION's 77 Euro 6 buses commenced service, and the remainder of the cleaner, greener buses will be progressively rolled out over the next four years, further enhancing ACTION's customer experience."

QuoteACTION's bus seat refurbishment program
As part of our refurbishment program a total of 54 buses have now received a complete seat refurbishment.
The program includes repairs and / or replacement of foam padding to make seats more comfortable, then the re-upholstering of the seat with new fabric that is modern, attractive, durable and fire retardant.
A different coloured fabric is also being used to identify priority seating. This comes after a successful trial was conducted on four buses last year with different fabric used for seats within priority spaces. The trial found that making priority seating more distinctive helped to encourage passengers to give up their seat to the aged, people with a disability or pregnant women.
We've got 25 more buses to complete as part of the program. It's just another one of the improvements we are making to create a cleaner, greener, simpler, smarter, quicker ACTION bus service.
Join us as we #SpringIntoACTION to bring you a more comfortable and clean journey.

928 has had the new rainbow covers on their seats for a while, and I saw 146 today with the MAN style covers. I think a 945 also has it.

What other older buses have gone through the refurbs?

At least one of the Belco PR3s has the MAN Style seat fabric, as have at least two of the Tuggeranong PR2s (incl 945); one or more of the Belco Darts also have the MAN style seat fabric.

998 and 999 were the PR3s If I recall what ACTBusspotter said. I only know of 928 and 945 as the PR2's and 140 & 142 have the rainbow pride stuff. Interestingly, some Gas Scanias seem to have newer versions of the fabric in them too to what that had initially. (351 I think I was on the other day with this...)

Worth noting that some of the PR2's which haven't had the seat refurbishment have had their seats thoroughly cleaned - 903 for example.

One or two of the old Tuggy Redex fleet returned from a souurn at Belconnen with non-matching materials on seats. The "foreign" fabric was the stuff you mainly see in Irisbuses....just does not go with the fabric pattern found throughout the MAN gas & diesel fleet.

Had 328 today, its seats fully refurbished with new "sunrise" fabric. Certainly gives these otherwise tired old workhorses a lift! (Actually, this bus goes very well....even fewer rattles).

I think 140-142 have been done, but the other darts still in service could use new seats. I caught one today and it was like sitting on plastic chairs.

Yes, agree...cushioning is very thin and faded. Whether it is worth putting an effort into what I suspect are peak period only buses is an issue....especially with plenty of PR2s warranting seat upgrades as well.

Not sure about 140-142, but there are quite a few darts operating outside peak hours. While the darts are really thin and faded, the Renault 100.2s have really thick and soft seats, and I find that for most of the renaults, the thorough cleaning they've done on some should be enough for another few years.

Yeah, the Mark 2 Renaults with the grey seats generally scrub up pretty well with a thorough clean.

The blue seats (as generally found in Mark 1s) are often in pretty poor condition and don't come up so well....but there can't be too many blue seated buses running around now.

Title: Re: Bus seat Refurbishments

probably 327 as well? seats in amazing condition with un-faded colours, however, they have used same rainbow fabric instead of purple for priority seating...

Would anyone happen to know if they are putting in new padding as well or just covers on each different type of bus?
Title: Re: Bus seat Refurbishments
Post by: smitho on November 14, 2014, 11:01:26 PM
Bus I had yesterday appeared to have 100% seat refurbishment - Bus 336.

Can't say whether they're using the same padding; seat swabs were pretty thin, mean and uncomfortable in the Scania gas buses, so hopefully they've upgraded the padding as part of the refurb.

Have sighted a few more PR100.3s with refreshed seats - 100 106 107 114 119. The list has been updated above.

Quite possible there are more.

I believe 320 and 322 need to be added to the list. I got them this afternoon and they seemed more comfortable and the seat covers looked new...then I got 150...they could (if anyone cared) do with the refurb treatment

Judging from the cond. of the seats and the differentiation in colour of priority seating, 148 has been done as well. Main fabric is the same as the old grey-based fabric as used in 151. priority seating is purple fabric

A few more recent sightings: 906 125 144 148 330. List will be updated.

Probably safe to assume all Scania L94s up to at least 350 have been refurbished. Possibly all of them have been done - what might be useful is reports of any Scania L94 that DON'T appear to have new seat fabric.

Probably a good idea if you don't mention them.

It is likely that ACTION are now only stocking the two Camira/Holdsworth fabric patterns - no more Frontrunner or the various other Holdsworth designs.

So all seat replacements will now be in the new patterns.

Haven't been keeping a particular eye out for seat refurbs for a while (and now that they are so common you don't notice) so may have occurred a while ago, but 930 today has been done which isn't on the list.

I noted 911, 975, and 977 as not having being done as of June - might be easier to notice the ones that haven't been done

930 done by 25/8
