While reading parts of the ACT Government Territry Plan, I noticed a few interesting points to do with public transport.

West Belconnen
-Provision be made for the future Intertown Public Transport Route that
enters West Belconnen via Ginninderra Drive.

Macgregor West
5.13 Bus Services
The Concept Plan makes provision for a central bus route through the suburb, generally
meeting the 400m walking distance criteria for over 95% of all housing in the suburb. Two
possible bus routes are considered practical to provide the residents of Macgregor West
with suitable public transport.
The proposed bus routes through the estate would provide an efficient service via a
relatively direct route, and would link to the commercial and community facilities at the
Macgregor Local Centre.

Bruce Central Precinct
Provision shall be made for an IPT route within a public corridor along Haydon Drive and
Battye Street to provide for express two-way public transport. Provision shall be
maintained for the IPT route around the south-west corner of the site (Haydon/ Battye)
including provision for a dedicated at grade public transport reservation for two-way
movement in this area.
Higher density commercial and residential development shall be promoted in the southwest
corner of the precinct to complement and facilitate access to and use of this IPT
route.
Where the IPT route cannot be accommodated to meet operational, customer
convenience and passenger station requirements within the Haydon Drive and Battye
Street road reserves, then land shall be negotiated from the lessees of sites along these
streets to accommodate the route.
In addition, development shall enable the provision for public transport within the site by
acknowledging Thynne Street and Watkin Street as the main connecting routes.

Kingston Foreshore
Provide fully integrated transport links, including pedestrian and cycle
paths, ferry services, bus and rail services. Develop public transport
routes and facilities to ensure the safe interchange of transport modes.
Ensure car parking does not visually or functionally dominate other land
uses.

North Watson
2. Adjustment to Main Road Network.
Aspinall Street will be extended to Antill Street and that section of road
gazetted. Stirling Avenue is to be degazetted between Aspinall Street and
Antill Street.

If some of the points layout appears weird, that is because the text has been copied from the relevant sections of the Territory Plan.

That last point on North Watson doesn't seem to make much sense.. Stirling Ave to be degazetted between Aspinall and Antill - yet it only runs from the highway down to the aspinall/knox intersection, doesn't it?

In my 1987 Street Directory, it is planned for Stirling Avenue to continue through to Antil Street. Monash Drive would then continue from the intersection of Stirling Avenue/Antil Street through to Morshead Drive (going through Campbell & around the back of Russel Offices.

If this had gone ahead & duplicated from the beginning, an overpass at the Kings Ave/Parkes Way roundabout may of not been needed. But then again when do planners ever think about the future?

As per usual - WTF? All planners ever think about is the future.

It is not planners who are to blame for Monash Drive not being built. It is the tree-hugging (or so they claim) NIMBYs of Ainslie and Hackett who thought that by opposing a road on the boundary of their suburb they would stop people driving cars to/from Gungahlin. So what did they get instead of cars going around their suburbs? Cars going through their suburbs! Smart thinking there, NIMBYs.

Buzz Killington

Couldn't agree with you more, Martin. A key road link doesn't go ahead all because of the tree huggers and whingers.
