I was bored today I decided to look up that ACTION contracts under the TAMS Department. A few interesting points are:

  • MAN have the contract till 2010 to deliver 16 buses & they MUST last no less then 20 years & they must be in service for 98% of the first 2 years & ACTION is now a MAN Authorised Dealer"
  • ACTION will also pay a fee to use the Mancats Diagnostic Software. MAN will also pay ACTION $250 a day per day per bus for late deilvery.
  • The chasis cost $234,387 per bus & the body costs $291,555.
  • Also a business case for Woden Depot is being developed to end in May 2009.
More can be found by searching http://www.contractsregister.act.gov.au/contracts/cr.nsf/?Open & going for TAMS as Department & ACTION as sub department.

Interesting MAN is only contracted for 16 buses, until 2010, I am sure that figure will grow

Buzz Killington

unless that's the 16 MANs that have already been delivered..

I just realised a big mistake that no one else picked up. The contract actually ends on 30/06/09. I was confused with the one above it for ACT Rural Bus Services (which Transborder has until 31/12/10). But it does also mention that the contract can be extended if either party wishes.

But the funniest ACTION contract is for a Slope Assessment of ACT Roads - Stage 2, in which most rural roads were tested.

I have found a weird contract that ended on 30/06/2008. It is for (http://www.contractsregister.act.gov.au/contracts/cr.nsf/0/7098406EB89A8744CA25740B000B5B43/$File/C08124%20Final.pdf)

An interesting Tender has popped up.

  • Consultancy: Feasibility Study - Park & Ride and Bike & Ride Facilities (CLOSED)
  • Consultancy: 2009/2010 Upgrading of Bus Stops at Selected Locations (CLOSED)
A few different ones to finish things off

  • Removal of Deceased Persons: within The Australian Capital Territory (CLOSED)
  • Select: 2009/11 ROAD NETWORK TESTING PROGRAM – SKID RESISTANCE TESTING (CLOSED)
  • Batteries for the Office of Regulatory Services (CLOSED)
Not much detail is listed for these tenders. But all can be found at http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/

For those that may be unaware, all ACTION contracts now go through Territory & Municipal Services.

Just a matter of interest, what other possible dealers are going to be under action contract. Scannia is, however is anyone else? It would be nice to see Irisbus given another chance, I do like those buses even thoe that they don't the best that they should?

The ones for the proposed bus stations were up a while back, not very interesting unless you put your name down to get the info..

On a side note, I've heard rumblings that ACTION may ask his chiefliness for more money to purchase buses in addition to the existing lot on order..

Sir Pompously

It would be Area Services Take 3 (I think it would be its third inception, the Flexibus Idea was sprouted atleast once before it), the idea seems to go around in loops and they always come up with the same answer.... It just does not work. Like the current network design with two differing networks, has happened before.

This tender has now closed, the 2 applicants are Bus Advertising (current manager) (http://www.busadvertising.com.au/) & Go Transit Media Group (http://www.gotransit.com.au/home)

Busnerd

Damn it, was hoping a return to APN. Since bus advertising do an awful job.

Buzz Killington

GoTransit don't seem to have many options in terms of ad placement either.

Would be nice to see at least enough ads on buses so that half the fleet isn't getting around with orange/blue vinyl stickers over the missing paintwork - particularly now that they've been there for quite a while, have faded and don't quite match the paint colours anymore.

A tender has just been opened for consultation for real time passenger information systems. Tender can be found at http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/tenders_advertised/tender_download/open_tenders/15419.311

Although it's listed as a tender, it's actually not. It's notification of an "Industry Consultation session" which will provide details about the Real Time Passenger Information System. The request for tender for the RTPIS will be issued in late November for the design/supply/install of the system.

Construction: Upgrade Of Fuel Storage Facilities, ACTION Bus Depots in various locations (http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/tenders_advertised/tender_download/open_tenders/16832.120)

This also includes the construction of temporary facilities while the new ones are being built. To my surprise, the facilities will be in the old location in the workshop under the offices.

Bus 400

The big one has been opened up-

Real Time Passenger Information System (http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/tenders_advertised/tender_download/open_tenders/15419.315)

Of particular note is that bus arrival information will be need to be displayed on touch screens (among other things). Maybe we will see these touch screens be integrated to able MyWay recharge?

Buzz Killington

Interesting to note in the advertising contract that ACTION will make six buses available for AOA's initially, and will allow up to 20 at a given time.

Bus 400

Looks like no one wants to upgrade ACTION's Fuel System, maybe the workshop wil have to do it themselves. (http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/tenders_advertised/tender_download/closed_tenders/16832.122).

Lucky there are those willing to help upgrade the major bus stops around Canberra (http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/tenders_advertised/tender_download/closed_tenders/17882.320). This will give the public somewhere that is very comfy while they wait for their bus, while the bus waits for new fuel tanks at the depot.

smitho

Uniform stocks are probably being run down at present pending this new contract. Fellow driver told me recently that they were out of hats @ Tuggy....

Barry Drive

Tender is out for "Design and Construction Superintendency Services: Gungahlin Bus Facilities Upgrade, ACT".

http://www.procurement.act.gov.au/tenders_advertised/tender_download/open_tenders/19631.110

Should be an easy job - (1) Remove existing shelters (2) Instal AdShel shelters (3) Collect money from Government

Buzz Killington

Let's get a working bee together then.

What's a twin steer tag?

Bus 400

I wonder if this tender has anything to do with Routes 3 & 7 (both steer-tag approved) now using this intersection?

Intersection Upgrade: Ellery Crescent CANBERRA

No doubt; drivers are finding it challenging even with the standard Scanias...

I have also noticed that the "Keep Left" on Liversidge Street on the roundabout of Garran Road has recently been shifted left so that buses can't knock it.
