QuoteMore than 100 extra customer service officers will be employed across the network including at busy City Loop stations and major junctions. On top of this 22 more stations will be staffed.

MTM will work closely with Victoria Police to cut crime across the network by 10 per cent and boost graffiti removal and cleanliness on trains and at stations. Customer service information will be boosted with improved passenger announcements and station displays.

Mr Brumby said all of the 93 six-carriage Comeng trains would be overhauled through a $100 million program to upgrade the trains' air-conditioners to work at temperatures of up to 45 degrees.

An additional $500 million will be spent on maintenance during the eight year contract bringing the total investment to $1.8 billion, including 100 additional maintenance workers, he said.

MTM are bound by tougher performance benchmarks for reliability and punctuality and will be fined up to $1 million a month for poor performance and if performance exceeds the target benchmarks of less than two per cent of services cancelled and more than 92 per cent of services on time, the operator will receive a bonus.

Under the eight year contract, MTM will deliver:
• A 24 per cent reduction in cancellations in the first year of operation;
• A 10 per cent increase in punctuality;
• 100 more customer service staff and 100 more maintenance workers;
• A 10 per cent reduction in crime across the network;
• A $ 5 million annual program to target graffiti;
• A $2.5 million redevelopment of Caulfield station;
• And oversee the roll out of the new 38 X-Trapolis trains and a new timetable.

KDR are bound by tougher performance benchmarks for reliability and punctuality and will be fined up to $500,000 a month for poor performance and if performance exceeds the target benchmarks of less five per cent of services cancelled and more than 80 per cent of services on time, the operator will receive a bonus.

KDR will spend $5 million to reinvigorate the tram fleet, beginning with a deep clean of all trams repairing damaged seats, removing graffiti and fixing vandalised doors, he said.

Additionally KDR will complete a $9 million overhaul of the 33 Z-Class trams improving passenger comfort and increase activity to remove graffiti and littler on the tram and light rail network.

Mr Brumby said safety would also be enhanced with an education campaign for pedestrians and passengers to take care on the tram network and improve customer service through the creation of the KDR Customer Service and Safety Training Academy which will train and empower employees to provide better customer service and information to passengers.

"Melbourne has one of the largest tram networks in the world and KDR have pledged to work with us to improve the reliability of the system and retain its status as an iconic symbol of the city," he said.

The new eight year operating contract with KDR will deliver:
• Cleaner and safer trams;
• Improved maintenance procedures to maximise fleet availability and reduce cancellations;
• Increased activity to remove litter and graffiti on and around the network;
• Better customer information at tram stops, focusing on route details and fares;
• Improve tram punctuality from 78 per cent of services on time to 82 per cent through the duration of the contract;
• Major works to upgrade tram tracks to improve passenger comfort and reduce maintenance; and
• Oversee the procurement and introduction of 50 new low floor trams from 2012.

KDR will operate the tram network for eight years with a possible extension for another seven and receive an annual state subsidy of $97 million a year.

The Tram Livery Is Awesome, With A More or less Hybrid Version of the Met Livery :D

Nice, very modern (or a very 'Melbourne') look for the transport systems there, and finally, an operator actually placing a decent livery on their vehicles.

STA, Veolia, TransdevTSL, CDC, Busways, etc, take note!

Watch yourself Boy. At Least CDC isnt plain White!

Sir Pompously

Atleast CDC has colour! If Veolia had of won the contract, I could see it being factory white with a tiny veolia logo next to each door. CDC vehicles are very noticable from the air, it is a sea of yellow!

Certainly very modern and fresh. Am glad to see the Yarra Trams brand staying, no point in changing something that is already good (Apart from the logo). I am still a fan of the Yarra Y logo, however it is bold, noticeable and the colours will look awesome. The train looks pretty cool, the only thing is the Big blue patch on the all yellow front. Looks a little strange, but is the yellow is there for safety purposes.

Love that new METRO logo. It is good and is something that won't need to be changed if the contract changes as  it is a generic transport term. Rather than Connex. The Yarra Trams logo is a bit average but it will be interesting to see if they have a new livery what it will look like, but that artists impression of the train looks great, can't wait to see these new things taking effect!

This was on bus australia, here is the Yarra Trams ad for the operator. There is also one for the trains on BA as well, but I liked this one more!

love the tram livery in the animation

Yes, it looks great. It seems to be drawing on the classic green and cream (gold) livery of the past and presented in a more modern way.

As for the trains livery, it looks good on flat sided cars but I can't see how it will work on the cars with fluted sides such as the Comeng sets.
