Bus services will be temporarily disrupted on Thursday 16 June 2011 to allow for a scheduled meeting of ACTION drivers, transport officers and special needs transport staff to discuss their enterprise agreement offer, James Roncon, Director, ACTION buses, announced today.

"The Transport Workers Union (TWU) has requested a meeting of their members to discuss and vote on ACTION's certified agreement offer," Mr Roncon said. "The meeting of up to 650 employees has been scheduled for 11 am to 1 pm Thursday 16 June 2011.

"As a result, bus services will not run between 10 am and 2 pm on Thursday. Buses will remain in operation for the morning peak period and be back on the road prior to the afternoon peak.

"Measures have been put in place to ensure the meeting does not affect school bus services and special needs transport services.

"Notices will be put on display in each of the major bus stations to notify patrons. Staff will also be at the major bus stations on Thursday reminding people of the disruption to services."

Mr Roncon said that while the disruption to services is not desirable the scheduled meeting between the TWU and their members to discuss the enterprise agreement is a positive outcome in the overall bargaining process.

"ACTION has been using the current bargaining process to review work practices and to achieve the flexibility required to improve the overall efficiency and reliability of Canberra's bus services," he said.

"ACTION has already taken the first step toward achieving this goal with the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU). It is now important that agreement is reached with the TWU to ensure the continued delivery of bus services to the Canberra community.

The ACT Government remains committed to improving bus services in the ACT to ensure the community has access to the most efficient public transport system.

Good thing is that this should be the end of any EBA related service disruptions for a while!

I love the comment made by TWU Rep, Klaus. In the fact that things have been made so much easier in the last month with change in staff & ministers.

I wouldn't be so sure.
