As promised, Photo of the Month is back with a special round to start the new year.

For this month only, we don't want new photos - only photos with historical significance. Most of the usual rules still apply.

The winning photo will be loaded to the actbus.net front page for a month (and added to the POTM archive) and posted to ACT Bus on Facebook. By submitting a photo, you are giving permission for it to be loaded onto the ACT Bus Gallery.

The rules:
  • photo must be "owned" by the person submitting it (if not, you must have the permission of the photographer to submit the photo - and identify the photographer)
  • two photographs may be submitted by any one person,

  • submitted photographs must prominently feature:
    • bus infrastructure (such as bus stop, bus station, bus depot) within the ACT / Queanbeyan region (location must be specified)
    and/or
    • a bus from the ACT or Queanbeyan (taken within the region or a former ACT/Queanbeyan bus) where -
      • the bus is in focus
      • the fleet or registration number of the bus is identifiable (or supplied by photographer if not visible in photograph)
  • photos narrower than 640 pixels will not be accepted

If possible, please supply date or month of photo.

Refer here for full ACT Bus photo submission conditions.

Photos can be submitted four ways: (1) by posting to this forum topic (2) by posting on ACT Bus facebook page (and mentioning POTM) (3) by tweeting to @actbus (4) by contacting ACT Bus (submit a "contact us" form, send a message to our Facebook page or send me a Private Message) - and we'll send you an email address.

To ensure consistency, photos must be displayed with a width of 640 (or height if 640 if a "portrait" aspect) - photos wider than 640 are required to use the option width=640 or height=640 in the image tag. For example: [img width=640] instead of [img].

Submissions close midnight 26 January, Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time, unless extended.

Voting will commence on 27 January. Voting will close on 1 February.

Now for the additional rules:

Only photos which meet these requirements may be submitted -

  • they must be at least 1 year old (2014 or earlier)
  • they must feature something historic, such as:

    • a bus which is no longer in service
    • a stop or street which is no longer serviced
    • a bus shelter or background building which no longer exists
    • some other historically significant feature (please state when submitting photo) - an old route number (by itself) is not sufficient
  • photos must not have previously won Photo of the Month or Photo of the Year, but can have been submitted before

Any doubt about eligibility, contact me first or submit it anyway.

Here are 2 old ones

First image is 853 on an early morning 43 loop, awaiting the start of the run on Osburn Dr

2nd is bus 990 awaiting a local service into Belconnen at the Fraser West Terminus.

[Moderator: second photo ineligible due to size.]

Bus 400

Bus 712 at City Bus Station, outside Sydney Building before the big explosion.

Bus 969 on Francis Ford Boulevard, Forde. Back in the old days, when the 59 came into Forde.

Well it took a while to find any decent photos in my collections of something that was 'historic' aside from just route numbers as well as something I haven't submitted before. Anyway, here goes...

BUS.985 performing a route 500 along Templestowe Avenue, Conder, in December 2012.

BUS.141 in Centenary Loop AOA travels the wrong way through the National Museum of Australia bus/coach roadway whilst operating first day services (4th February 2013) on the former Centenary Loop route 100 (this was when there was roadworks at the Museum and buses had to use the current exit for entry and exit from the NMA stop/layover).

Very close vote.

For this month, we'll go back to normal Photo of the Month rules, although we may do another historical round later. The bonus photo category will be the bus stations at Gungahlin, Barton and Kippax in their current form.
