Bus 400

A few changes may occur to Network 2012 in the coming months. Details can be found at https://www.action.act.gov.au/network12_amendments.html

If rumors are correct, time changes are also expected for weekend services.

Sir Pompously

I am hoping they see sense and change the 966 from its current full Barraclough run to actually service the new end of Goodwin Village on Cockroft. The oldies down that end would actually get a service then, as at present the bus stops on the route are quite a distance for Betty or Maurice to walk to. Did put it in to ACTION and they said it will be looked at at the next review

CNG

does this mean another shift spill?

We'll just have to wait & see, it all depends on how drastic the changes are.

Or for a better answer to your question read previous posts.

Barry Drive

So, what else is on the wish list?

My four MUST DO changes would be:

  • Fix scheduling of Blue Rapid to have an even gap (5 mins) between services during off-peak day time;
  • Extend Route 57 timetable to run until 11pm (like every other bus route); alternatively run a modified 58 at night similar to 952 through Franklin;
  • Fix the debacle that is the Gungahlin weekend routes - at best redo them from scratch; at the very least fix connections at Gungahlin Town Centre; and
  • Modify Belconnen weekend routes to provide a service to West Macgregor - it can be done for minimal/no cost with some modifications to 903, 904, 905 and 907.

>. Re-number the 921/22/23/24 to match the weekday routes
>. Have 2 900's run via erindale and the other 2 via the weekday route

belcodriver

Fix the weekend buses heading up Northbourne Avenue. They currently leave at 10, 13, 38, 40 and 47 minutes past the hour. An even 12 minute spacing might not be possible but 25 and 23 minute gaps are silly.

Bus 400

Going by this road closure (http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/242192/R-C_CAPITAL_WORKS_TURNER.pdf). My money is on network revisions being effective from the 29 October at the earliest.

smitho

One of my Route 111 passengers said that there will be 111's running on weekends. Wishful thinking may be?

Google Transit update appeared today which covers 2012-09-17 to 2012-12-21 and adds stop #3450 "London Cct Police Station", stop #3472 "London Cct after Knowles Pl", stop #5111 "Catalina DR Costco", stop#6091 "Amy Ackman St before Jessie St" while removing stop #4287 "Beetaloo St before Murranji St", stop #4794 "Knox St opp Watson Shops", stop #4894 "Moyes St after Flack St", stop #5136 "Reg Saunders Way after Constitution Av", stop #5163 "Phillip Av before Bradfield St".
Nothing about the ANU Xchange bus station but stop #4530 "Marcus Clarke St before Barry Dr" has moved.
There's also a lot of tiding up and contracting the titles of bus station platforms (or "Stn Plts" in the new-speak) - presumably because the MyWay data coming back with the platform number cut off stop names for being too long wasn't easy to use ;)

smitho

ANU Xchange likely to open to bus operations in both directions around November.

King of Buses

Route 39 I think ought to be reduced to a 60 minute frequency and another route operating in the opposite direction around Watson (possibly the 38) and they should both operate hourly with them operating alternately and with a 30 min gap between departures from the City during the off peak. In peak, they could operate every 30 mins each with a 15 min gap between departures.

Have you been taking your meds?
It is a 10 minute loop, there is no need to operate the service in both directions. All this will do is lead to people being confused as to which side of the road to stand on (939 anyone?).

Barry Drive

New shifts are out. More details when I get the chance to study them.

CNG

what date is the network comencing on?
also is it known if there will be new holiday shifts?

Barry Drive

Probably only draft shifts at this stage, so no start date.

A few things I have noticed: there will be Route 57s operating beyond 7pm; there appear to be some low floor artic Blue Rapid runs (not many); possible that some Darts will be returned to service.

And yes, School Holiday shifts will be changed at the same time - whenever that will be.

smitho

Had a good look at new PT Tuggy shifts over past few days.

As expected, all  former "CNG" category buses (Scania plus MAN gassies) are amalgamated with MAN diesel category buses under the generic heading "Euro".

A small number of shifts have designated PR 3 category runs. Midis seem to be back with avengence, with some shifts all-Midi.

The number of morning straight shifts (ie. unbroken) has roughly doubled.

Broken articulated shifts remain a fairly common feature of the PT roster, with a few more all-artic shifts than before.

More PT shifts now feature 200 and 300 series runs, usually in pairs.

A reasonable number of PT shifts feature two school runs, although there seems to be more daytime shifts without any S/Rs at all.

Possibly there are fewer artic Xpresso runs on the PT roster; didn't notice any shifts with artics rostered to do either Red or Blue intertown runs.

CNG

any shifts with more than 2 bus changes on them?

Yet Belconnen still differentiates between "Euro" and "Iris". (Not that that's a bad thing - unless you get an Iris shift.)

Quotedidn't notice any shifts with artics rostered to do either Red or Blue intertown runs.
Since Tuggeranong low-floor artics are not likely to be in service before February 2013, this is not too surprising.

New shifts should be in effect by that time.

Barry Drive

Still nothing official but latest information suggests new timetables start January 2013 at the earliest.

Barry Drive

IF the weekday changes are limited to extra Route 57 services, plus a new loop service, then they don't need to do a full shift spill - just put on a few extra shifts (and/or change a few shifts) for the new runs.

The Love Guru

Not possible. There aren't any shifts that could have 2 runs tacked onto the end as there wouldn't be any full time shifts with enough hours available, and would push any part-time shift beyond its allowed maximum. It would require an entire shift spill and re-working of all the shifts.

Barry Drive

It's been done before. Wasn't talking about adding runs to existing shifts, but adding shifts and changing others.

Barry Drive

Changes found via Google Transit feed thus far (changes start 2 February 2013 / 4 February 2013):

New Route 100 - Centenary Loop - operates half-hourly from 0900 to 1630. Each loop takes 40 minutes.
3 new AM Route 10 - Cook Shops to City - departs 0752 0830 0909
4 extra route 57 runs: depart City 1955, 2100, 2200; depart Gung TC 2028

Route 958 has been re-scheduled
Weekend routes have been re-timed (including 900, 904, 939)

More later (?)

The Love Guru

You do realise Martin that these changes aren't happening. All of these runs were to do with cancelled shift spill. There wont be any weekday timetable or shift changes until Network '13 arrives (apart from required changes to school services for the new year).

Barry Drive

The full shift spill was Plan A. These changes are Plan B.

Route 100 is definitely happening and I see no reason why the other changes won't happen either. Had they done a full shift spill, there would have been more than 4 additional 57 runs.

smitho

Redex was accommodated without any shift spill; might go the same way with Centenary route.

Bus 400

A few more apparent changes are
Route 300 (Tuggeranong to City) Dep: 07:02
Route 300 (Woden to Belconnen) Dep: 09:15 09:20

Bus 400

Weekend bus book is available (limited stock though).
Time cut on 900 from Tuggeranong to Woden, looks to be roughly 6 minutes.
Time also cut on 904, while 2 minutes added to 925 out & 927 also leave 2 minutes later. Also time changes to the 958 (both directions).
I am yet to thoroughly examine booklet though.
ACTION should be making an official notice on Monday though.

8 minutes had been added to Woden-Tuggeranong last year, specifically south of Erindale...unrequired padding.

Barry Drive

7 minutes have been cut from Tuggeranong-bound route 900, which makes it now only 5 minutes longer than the timing in 2010.

The only route change that I can find is the 958 which has been extended to officially terminate at Kate Crace/Hibberson. With the timing changes made to this route to now connect with the 956 at GMP, layover time at Kate Crace is 22 minutes. Could have used that extra time to go into Franklin and turn around there, instead of just sitting around doing nothing.

Route 951 has had 14 minutes shaved off its time in both directions; 952 no longer takes over 90 minutes end-to-end - now takes 84 minutes to City and 83 to Belconnen (previously 92 and 100 minutes).

Weekday changes now announced https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzCxhBE0EgTSZERlSHd1TnE0aTQ/edit

Quote"Additional services have also been scheduled into the weekday timetable to meet passenger demand, with 33 more trips to run across the week during peak periods," Mr Rattenbury said.

From Monday 4 February 2013 the weekday timetable will include:

  • three additional Route 10 services from Cook shops to the City
  • one additional Route 200 service from Gungahlin to the City
  • two additional Route 39 services from Watson to the City
  • two additional Route 319 services from Woden to Lanyon
  • one additional Route 19 service from Lanyon to Tuggeranong
  • three additional Route 57 services from the City to Gungahlin
  • one additional Route 57 service from Gungahlin to the City
  • one additional Route 3 service from Belconnen to Woden
  • 19 additional Route 300 services.

The ACTION website makes available a new 980 timetable in the updated timetable section, but I'm struggling to see what has changed....?

Also, 19 additional 300 trips? Could that possibly be a typo? Are there enough buses for these additional routes? More importantly, is there sufficient demand for 19 additional 300's?

There are 19 new trips on the 300, but 2 of these were extended:

3 x City - Tugg (0816 0819 0902)
5 x City - Belc (0840 0916 0932 0948 0950)
3 x Belc - Tugg (0833* 0840* 0921)
3 x Tugg - Belc (0607 0642 0944)
1 x Tugg - City (0702)
2 x Woden - Belc (0915 0920)
2 x Belc - City (0625 1924)

* - were previously Belc - City only

Sufficient demand? For some, maybe. But a few of these new trips leave within minutes of existing trips, particularly those after 0900.

Barry Drive

To list all the changes:

  • three additional Route 10 services from Cook shops to the City (0752 0830 0909)
  • one additional Route 200 service from Gungahlin to the City (0805)
  • two additional Route 39 services from Watson to the City (0820 0910)
  • two additional Route 319 services from Woden to Lanyon (1553 1622)
  • one additional Route 19 service from Lanyon to Tuggeranong (1727)
  • three additional Route 57 services from the City to Gungahlin (1955 2100 2200)
  • one additional Route 57 service from Gungahlin to the City (2028)
  • one additional Route 3 service from Belconnen to Woden (0813)
  • 19 additional Route 300 services (see previous post)

It's safe to say that they wouldn't put on extra services if they didn't have to. The problem with the intertown is that the 300 will 'compete' with the 312, 313, 314, 315, 318 and 319 for passengers. When the frequency on the intertown is as rapid as it is, if the 300 arrives two minutes early or two minutes late, it could find itself empty or packed.

Bus 400

However with these fairly frequent Blue Rapids, if a suburban service urgently needs a replacement bus. Well a 300 can be removed & replace this suburban service.

Buzz Killington

Route 100 kicks off on Monday.
