To answer a question from IrisbusRider, the coin dispensers currently used by ACTION ($2 $1 50c 20c 10c) came in once the $2 entered circulation (so 1988 or later). Some buses were fitted with a new, flat coin tray to go with the new dispensers, but these ended up being replaced with the rounded tray we know so well.

Prior to that, the coin dispensers held 20c 10c 5c 2c 1c coins - which meant they were almost the same size as the current ones so the change over only required the tray bracket to be changed, not the whole assembly. Back then, drivers had to keep 50c coins, then later $1 coins, loose in their bags.

As for the coin trays, from what I remember these came in around 1973-74. I have vague memories of older buses being fitted with a saucer-like coin tray. The coin dispensers were not linked to these trays, instead they were hooked onto the inside of the cabin door.

Thanks for that response, an interesting history, which will no doubt change again in the future.

Thanks again :)
