Media Release: Katy Gallagher MLA

ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Katy Gallagher, today invited the community to take part in a series of focus groups to provide feedback on current and future ACTION bus services.

“The ACT Government is committed to delivering an accessible and effective ACTION bus service which also helps meet sustainable transport targets, and input from the community is key to achieving this,” the Chief Minister said.

“I encourage anyone interested in public transport – whether they are a regular bus user or they catch a bus only occasionally – who would like to be part of a focus group discussing current and future bus services to call 13 17 10 to find out how to take part in this important process.

“With ongoing input from Canberrans, the ACTION bus network will continue to evolve as our city grows.

“Following the recent improvements introduced as Network 12, a review of the ACTION network is being conducted to inform further improvements for the future.”

The Chief Minister said the changes that are identified will be considered as part of Network 13, which will continue the move towards the standards outlined in the Transport for Canberra Strategy announced by the ACT Government on 19 March 2012.

“The review will use valuable data from the MyWay ticketing system on the travel patterns of bus users to help develop Network 13. The data will improve the service by identifying busy bus routes that require increased frequency or may need to be redesigned.

“This review will also look at developing suburbs and the alignment of weekend bus routes with weekday routes where possible.

“The new network will build on Network 12 which commenced on Monday 28 May 2012,” the Chief Minister concluded.

Canberrans wishing to participate in the focus groups can also contact Winton Sustainable Research Strategies by emailing leswinton@bigpond.com.
