ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Katy Gallagher, today announced that Trapeze Austrics Pty Ltd has been selected as the preferred supplier to design, supply and install ACTION’s real time passenger information system.
“I am pleased to announce that, Trapeze, a company with over 40 years experience on the international market who is a global supplier of real time fleet management systems, as the preferred supplier for the delivery of the real time passenger information system for ACTION buses,” the Chief Minister said.
“The new system, which will be known as ‘NXTBUS’, will track ACTION buses and provide instant information to passengers in relation to their current location and their estimated arrival time at the next stop.
“Canberrans will, for the first time, have access to real time arrival information for ACTION bus services. Arrival times will be available via digital displays installed at Woden, Civic, Belconnen and Tuggeranong bus stations, the internet, mobile phones/tablets, touch screen displays and on-bus visual displays,” the Chief Minister said.
Trapeze has a proven track record in delivering real time systems around the world including Frankfurt, Hamburg, Zurich, Chicago, Singapore and the award-winning iBus project in London. The company has been present in the Australian market place since 1995.
“A total of $12.5 million was allocated in the 2010-11 ACT Budget over three years for the design and roll out of the system which will help improve the delivery of public transport services to the community.
“The funding will enable installation of software, fleet fit out including on-bus visual and audio display systems, bus driver consoles with automated driver route guidance, electronic displays at bus stations showing approaching services and development of a NXTBUS website,” the Chief Minister concluded.
The implementation phase of the project is expected to commence later this month with the system fully commissioned in 2013.
